At WHOOP, we’re on a mission to unlock human performance and healthspan. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level and live longer through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.

WHOOP is seeking a Senior Embedded QA Automation Engineer to lead quality automations within the Hardware Accelerate team, which builds the technology foundation for quality of firmware development. This team’s work is critical to delivering robust systems that streamline internal workflows and empower engineers to focus on breakthroughs in development while being confident in their changes. You’ll tackle hard testing problems, eliminate flakiness, influence architecture for testability, and raise the quality bar across teams. If you love writing real code, thinking in systems, and instilling quality as a shared principle this role is for you.

In this role, you will have both technical leadership and implementation responsibilities. You’ll support the wider embedded team in shaping QA automation designs, architecture, and best practices, helping maintain high standards for reliability, security, and quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and evolve the test automation strategy, deciding what to automate based on risk, ROI, and release impact

  • Define technical strategy, architecture, and design for features that support firmware quality focused initiatives

  • Ensure CI/CD test reliability, reduce flakiness, and provide fast, trusted feedback on code changes

  • Define, track, and communicate quality metrics and risk to support confident release decisions

  • Define, track, and communicate test coverage and test speed metrics by both measuring and improving on both

  • Mentor engineers, setting standards and quality culture across teams

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a hands-on software developer

  • Strong technical skills in software development, testing, and deployment

  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language used for automation (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python, JavaScript)

  • Proven experience designing and maintaining scalable automated test frameworks (E2E, integration, API)

  • Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, test execution and triage at scale

  • Experience testing embedded systems

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to align technical and business priorities

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with a strong sense of ownership

  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions
