Our Opportunity
At Chewy, we strive to be the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and our partners - vets and service providers - alike. Our success is measured by the happiness of the people and pets we serve, not simply by the amount of pet supplies we deliver. That's why we continue to think outside the Chewy box to delight, surprise, and thank our loyal pet lovers!
Chewy provides exceptional value to pet parents by offering consistently compelling and competitive prices, Autoship discounts, and promotions on a wide range of private and national brand pet products. We are committed to transparency, fairness, and predictability, and Chewy strives to price according to the best interests of pet parents, not to our own short-term financial goals. We prioritize long-term relationships built on trust and satisfaction with pet parents that we intend to maintain across multiple generations.
Chewy is hiring a Senior Director of Pricing and Data Science to lead our core central pricing function, with responsibility for ensuring that all 200K products that Chewy sells - from cat treats to horse hoof oil to custom compounded pet arthritis medicines - are priced sharply. The Pricing team has five key accountabilities: (1) Accuracy. We determine the customer-facing website prices, list prices, "was" prices, and per unit prices for a catalog of >100K products ranging from dog toys to horse vaccinations and must ensure that every one of those products is priced exactly as intended. (2) Competitiveness. We rigorously benchmark Chewy prices against other leading retailers, veterinary practices, and regional distributors. This includes both online and offline sources. Customers can feel confident they will always get a great price on anything they buy on Chewy. (3) Consistency. Prices should be logical and predictable; we don't control our product costs nor prevailing market rates, but we do protect Chewy customers from unnecessary or unhealthy price volatility with guardrails and exception review processes. (4) Profitability. The prices we set directly impact Chewy's bottom line, so we partner closely with Finance to ensure pricing strategies/assumptions/actions/trends are precisely bridged and reflected in P&L reports or forecasts. (5) Trust. We listen to our customers and deep dive outliers and/or defects at a SKU or order level >500 times per week.
Organizationally, this leadership role will lead all aspects of four core sub-teams:
  1. Pricing Operations, which implements price changes, performs QA audits, manages defect resolution, ensures pricing accuracy across the live catalog, and oversees compliance with MAP, price matching, and internal audit controls.
  2. Pricing Analytics, which builds dashboards, monitors performance, develops insights, and supports leadership reviews (WBRs, MBRs). Pricing Analytics owns recurring reporting on competitiveness, MAP exposure, and pricing actions.
  3. Pricing Data Science, which develops and maintains elasticity models, generative AI agents, reinforcement learning algorithms, propensity scores, and ASP forecasts.
  4. Pricing Product Management, which defines the pricing platform roadmap, prioritizes improvements, measures business impact, and drives user adoption of pricing tools.

The ideal candidate will excel at Think Big, Operate at Depth, Deliver Results, and Earns Trust. Expect to craft a bold, innovative, and ambitious multi-year vision for the team. You will also roll up your sleeves to solve complex and highly technical problems. You will be goal-oriented and demonstrate a high degree of ownership yet also be able to drive high judgment decisions in close collaboration with CM, Finance, Marketing, and Supply Chain leaders across the company, and to communicate complex dilemmas clearly and concisely - with a Customers First attitude - to both technical and non-technical leaders.
What You'll Need
  • MBA or MS degree in Economics, Applied Mathematics, Finance, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of professional experience with a consistently strong track record and pace of advancement
  • 5+ years of retail or e-commerce pricing industry experience
  • 5+ years directly managing >10 person teams
  • Expertise working with dynamic pricing, causal inference, A/B testing, machine learning, and generative AI algorithms
  • Strong written and verbal executive communication skills

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k, an annual bonus potential, new hire and annual equity grant.
We offer different types of insurance, such as medical/Rx, vision, dental, life, disability, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident. We offer parental leave, family services benefits, backup dependent care, flexible spending accounts, telemedicine, pet adoption reimbursement, employee assistance program, and many discounts including 10% off pet insurance and 20% off at Chewy.com.
Salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
Base Salary Range
$227,500-$406,000 USD

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
