Your Opportunity
Chewy is seeking an eCommerce SEO Manager to join our high-performing SEO team in our Bellevue, WA, Boston, MA, or Fort Lauderdale, FL office. You will be responsible for leading the Organic Search strategy for our Hard Goods product category; an essential part of our business. You will work cross-functionally with Product Management, Content, Data Science, Engineering, Category Management, and Site Merchandising teams to drive measurable traffic and revenue growth from search.
As the eCommerce SEO Manager, you will develop and execute comprehensive SEO strategies focused on increasing visibility, improving crawlability, and capturing intent across all Organic channels. This includes traditional search engines as well as emerging AI search platforms. You will also serve as a subject matter expert in the evolving landscape of AI-powered search, helping Chewy maintain a competitive edge by driving discoverability in ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, and beyond.
You will be expected to rapidly develop a deep understanding of the Hard Goods product landscape, identifying customer behavior patterns, and translating those insights into high-impact SEO strategies. You will also lead competitive research and landscape analysis to identify whitespace, benchmark Chewy's performance, and guide strategic decisions that keep us ahead of our competitors.
This role is ideal for a highly analytical savvy SEO leader with deep eCommerce experience, a strong content and storytelling sensibility, and a passion for evolving search technologies.
What You'll Do
  • Define and lead the SEO strategy for Chewy's Hard Goods product category to grow Organic traffic and revenue.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of Chewy's Hard Goods business, including customer intent, product types, category taxonomy, and merchandising priorities.
  • Quantify and communicate the total Organic Search opportunity, partnering with key stakeholders across Category Management, Site Experience, Product Management, Data Science, and Engineering to align and execute.
  • Conduct competitive research and analysis to identify SEO trends, benchmark performance, and inform both traditional and AI Search strategy.
  • Develop and present SEO strategy, roadmaps, and performance updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Conduct comprehensive SEO analyses using first- and third-party data sources; identify gaps, test hypotheses, and deliver clear recommendations.
  • Lead experimentation efforts to validate SEO initiatives and inform strategy decisions.
  • Partner with Engineering to ensure proper technical implementation of SEO initiatives; identify and solve for crawl, render, and indexing issues.
  • Integrate AI Search optimization tactics into overall strategy; ensuring Chewy is discoverable and well-represented in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and other generative AI platforms.
  • Educate cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders on AI Search trends and develop scalable strategies to drive mentions and citations across AI-powered search environments.
  • Collaborate with Content and Merchandising teams to develop and optimize content that aligns with SEO and AI Search best practices.
  • Own SEO tooling strategy and requirements; partner with internal teams or vendors as needed.
  • Roll up your sleeves, communicate proactively, and drive results with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience, preferably in a fast-paced eCommerce environment.
  • Proven track record of managing SEO for large, complex websites with millions of URLs.
  • Deep understanding of eCommerce SEO, including on-page ranking factors, site architecture, crawlability, internal linking, and content optimization.
  • Experience driving measurable results across traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered search platforms.
  • Fluency in using enterprise SEO tools (e.g., Botify, Conductor, Search Console, Screaming Frog).
  • Strong understanding of how Google and other search engines crawl, render, and index websites.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the impact of front-end technologies on SEO.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and storytelling skills; comfortable translating data into compelling strategies.
  • Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams across the organization.
  • A passion for search, content discovery, and staying on top of industry trends.
  • This position may require occasional travel.
Bonus
  • Experience with SEO A/B testing and experimentation platforms.
  • Experience optimizing for AI-generated results, such as Google AI Overview, ChatGPT citations, or Perplexity snippets.
  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs) and their role in modern search.
  • Experience partnering with Engineering to scope and deliver scalable SEO solutions.

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
Base Salary Range
$110,500-$176,000 USD
