Ensure the availability and optimization of the Microsoft Data Platform infrastructure, both on-premises and in the cloud. Automate database maintenance, monitoring, alerting, and mitigation of potential issues using Azure Monitor and Kusto Query Language, Azure Function App, PowerShell, and ServiceNow. Design, deploy, monitor, and support Azure database resources, such as Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and more. Duties include:


1. Support database service delivery to business units (standard business hours with on-call rotation);

2. Implement SQL Server enhancements and updates to ensure DBMS technology remains up-to-date;

3. Provide in-depth troubleshooting for performance-related production issues;

4. Build and maintain the data storage infrastructure, either in relational, non-relational, or other storage systems, including virtualized and physical SQL Server Clusters and Azure Data Lake;

5. Optimize query performance against SQL Server, Azure Synapse, and inside of Azure Data Factory components;

6. Implement and maintain SQL HA functionality, including multi-subnet Always On Availability Groups;

7. Collaborate with Developers on data-related code development efforts, focusing on performance, usability, and scalability;

8. Redesign applications and databases to optimize them for the cloud;

9. Participate in new data projects and design database and architecture for both on-premises and in the cloud;

10. Automate repetitive tasks by integrating existing tools using TSQL, PowerShell, Azure Function, KQL, or other technology;

11. Migrate on-premises applications and databases to the most appropriate IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions.

 

May telecommute part of the week from commuting distance to Boston, MA in accordance with the company’s flexible working policy.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

A Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field followed by 5 years of post-baccalaureate experience in a database administrator-related occupation.

 

Experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently:

 

1) 4 years of experience working with large MS SQL Server databases in a 24x7x365 production environment;

2) 4 years of experience building and upgrading SQL servers;

3) 4 years of experience monitoring SQL Server versions and releases;

4) 4 years of experience with SQL Server HADR solution;

5) 4 years of experience with SQL Server, including SQL internals, performance tuning, and query optimization using TSQL;

6) 3 years of experience in automation programming;

7) 2 years of experience monitoring a large SQL Server estate, including databases in the cloud;

8) 1 year of experience with DevOps CI/CD pipelines;

9) 1 year of experience with ticketing tools, including ServiceNow, Jira, or Azure DevOps board.
