What you’ll be doingThe Senior Accounting Manager requires a proactive, execution-oriented leader, who will manage and oversee all aspects our month-end close and accounting operations supporting our commercial growth activities. We seek a self-motivated, detail-oriented accounting professional who can thrive in our fast-paced and collaborative environment. Responsibilities include supporting Nuvation’s core accounting function, month-end and quarter-end close, including collaboration with our commercial business partners and being an internal lead with auditors (internal and Big 4 external auditors) to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial reports in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
The ideal candidate has both public accounting (Big 4 audit, a plus) and life sciences industry (biotech, biopharmaceutical, medical device, etc. ), strong Sox 404 experience, and can lead global and cross-functional team initiatives, including global financial systems implementations, and provide technical accounting research.
You will be responsible for…- Lead the month-end, quarter-end, financial close process for commercial activities, including owning the commercial accrual process, including contract review, evaluation of estimates and assumptions, timely preparation of accurate journal entries, and reconciliation of accrual balances with focus on meeting accelerated close timelines
- Manage and oversee third-party Accounts Receivable (AR) operations, providing day-to-day leadership to third-party AR team and partnering closely with commercial business partners to ensure compliance with financial accounting approval workflows (proper GL coding and account reconciliations, customer credit limits, customer onboarding controls, month-end reserve analysis)
- Preparing audit schedules, variance analyses, and other financial analytics and financial statement reports that support the audit, SEC reporting and business decision.
- Serve as key business partner with Commercial, Supply Chain, Clinical, CMC and R&D teams for expenses and contract tracking and review for determining the proper accounting treatment and support other accounting and finance teams as neededCoordinate with external auditors and ensure support and information requests are provided timely for quarterly reviews and annual financial audits
- Responsible for overseeing SOX compliance activities for assigned areas, experience executing appropriate internal controls, and maintaining related documentation of formal policies, procedures and internal control narratives
- Support special projects as needed (including technical accounting matters, M&A, finance-related system implementations and integrations, global process automations to accelerate the close and reporting timelines)
- BA/BS in accounting or business administration or equivalent experience; CPA preferred
- At least 6+ years experience, preferably with combination of accounting, audit and system management and implementation experience in biotech or life sciences industry. Big-Four public accounting experience a plus
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SOX requirements and experience managing external and internal audit activities
- Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as analytical and interpersonal skills
- NetSuite experience preferred, and advanced Excel skills required
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in managing tight deadlines with follow-through and minimal supervision
- Possess a strong work ethic and ability to be adaptable to changing responsibilities and priorities in a fast-paced environment

The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
