The Semantic Web Engineer will develop data pipelines and services, harmonize medical terminology, and implement semantic services using containerization and cloud technologies, ensuring compliance and quality in data governance.
Semantic Web Engineers at IMO Health are key members of our ontology-driven engineering teams. You will be a specialist working with multiple teams to virtualize huge volumes of complex medical terminology as we scale our database footprint. The Semantic Web Engineer's work will be critical to achieving IMO Health’s goals to deliver a more comprehensive and reactive source of clinical terminology to healthcare professionals.
You will use your experience with ontology architecture and tooling to harmonize and leverage complex sources to develop automated approaches to large volume data ingestion. You will be pivotal not just to ingesting/virtualizing existing content but building inferences and reasoning across it. This work will drastically improve content relationships and the quality of content that we provide to over 740,000 physicians every day.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Serve as a technical resource in semantic web development on cross-skilled clinical, content, and data teams as we develop meaningful data relationship experiences.
- Design and write quality source code for data pipelines and services, including detailed documentation of design and implementation.
- Implement and maintain the deployment of semantic services using containerization technologies (Docker) and cloud orchestration platforms like Amazon ECS. Contribute to and maintain automated deployment, testing, and integration activities utilizing robust CI/CD pipelines.
- Work together with the product owner to break down features into actionable user stories and technical tasks.
- Utilize existing taxonomies and ontologies applicable to our work. Contribute to the documentation and publishing of taxonomies/ontologies, supporting the core concepts of our domain.
- Adhere to and support the established governance process for structured data, ensuring compliance across implementations.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- A relevant STEM BA/BS Degree and 3-5 years of relevant coding experience, or five years of relevant professional experience in semantic web development using multiple languages (Python, Java).
- High level of proficiency in database querying (SQL, NoSQL) and familiarity with RDF, OWL, SHACL, and SPARQL.
- Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and cloud deployment strategies using services like Amazon ECS.
- Familiar with agile development, incorporating Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), utilizing technologies such as GIT and Jenkins.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with relational databases (SQL) and familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and to lead collaborative efforts across diverse teams.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data challenges, identify root causes, and architect strategic, scalable solutions within a semantic context.
- Experience in an Agile/Scrum environment, iteratively developing and deploying data solutions.
- Bonus: Understanding healthcare ontologies and standards like SNOMED-CT, LOINC, RxNorm, and ICD-10.
