As a Research Consultant on our Consulting Services team, you'll play a key role in helping customers successfully onboard to the UserTesting platform and build confidence in conducting their own research.

You'll guide new customers through onboarding programs, provide hands-on training, and help them understand how to use UserTesting to gather meaningful insights. From introducing platform capabilities to advising on foundational research methodologies, you'll help customers develop the skills and knowledge needed to run effective research independently.

This role is ideal for someone with a foundation in UX research who enjoys teaching, problem-solving, and working directly with customers. We're looking for someone who is organized, approachable, and excited to help customers succeed through education, enablement, and practical research guidance.

Responsibilities

Customer Onboarding & Enablement

  • Lead customer onboarding sessions, introducing new users to the UserTesting platform, its capabilities, and core research workflows.
  • Guide customers through structured onboarding programs, tracking progress and helping ensure successful completion.
  • Deliver engaging training sessions and demonstrations to help customers confidently navigate the platform and conduct research independently.
  • Answer customer questions, troubleshoot common challenges, and provide practical guidance throughout the onboarding experience.
  • Identify opportunities to improve onboarding materials, training resources, and the overall customer experience.

Research Guidance & Support

  • Help customers design and launch research studies, providing guidance on research objectives, methodologies, participant targeting, and study setup.
  • Educate customers on foundational UX research best practices, including usability testing, interviews, and concept testing.
  • Support customers in understanding research findings and translating insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Provide practical advice to help customers incorporate research into their existing workflows.
  • Support more advanced research workshops and consulting engagements as experience develops.

Customer & Internal Collaboration

  • Partner with Customer Success, Sales, and other internal teams to support a smooth onboarding experience and ongoing customer adoption.
  • Monitor customer engagement during onboarding, proactively identifying challenges or areas where additional support may be needed.
  • Gather customer feedback and share insights to help improve onboarding programs and resources.
  • Manage multiple customer onboarding engagements while maintaining a high level of organization and responsiveness.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in UX research, customer enablement, research operations, customer training, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple customer engagements or projects simultaneously.
  • Foundational understanding of UX research methodologies, including usability testing, moderated interviews, and concept testing.
  • Experience conducting research studies, supporting research projects, or helping others use research tools and methodologies.
  • Experience presenting research findings and translating insights into clear, compelling stories and actionable recommendations for clients, internal leadership, or cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical or research concepts in a clear, approachable way.
  • Interest in teaching, coaching, and helping customers build confidence using new tools and processes.
  • A customer-focused mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies and adapting to evolving processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with customers and internal cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with remote research platforms such as UserTesting, UserZoom, or similar tools.
  • Previous experience delivering customer training, onboarding, or educational workshops
  • Occasional travel required (5–10%) for customer engagements, workshops, or training sessions.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
