About the Role

We are seeking an experienced professional who is exceptional at relationship management to focus on building and maintaining a strong and mutually beneficial business relationship with institutional clients in the Canadian market. Based in our Toronto office, this individual will partner closely with the Director of Canada, Business Development Manager on shared accounts and lead engagements with clients to understand their investment goals and servicing needs, as well as addressing any issues, concerns or opportunities. 

The Relationship Manager will be focused on growing and maintaining existing relationships. They will play a key role in client retention efforts, including defense strategies, as well as cross-selling efforts. The individual will collaborate with internal teams to onboard new client accounts and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Independently and proactively lead engagements with clients to understand their investment and servicing needs, including discussing their portfolios with Wellington, providing high level service expertise and hosting client meetings as required.
  • Act as a strategic thought partner to the Business Development Manager on shared accounts, analyze performance data, investment characteristics, and risk profiles of client portfolios and conduct portfolio reviews.
  • Serve as a central point of contact internally and externally to ensure servicing needs are met.
  • Prepare for, lead/attend and provide follow-up on client meetings and inquiries.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the industry in which their clients operate, such as insurance companies, pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and government bodies.
  • Understand client’s overall objectives that influence their investment and servicing requirements.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts firmwide to onboard new client accounts and process subsequent cash flows. Partner with other functional areas to address client issues, concerns, and opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to create efficiencies and assist in internal initiatives to implement recommendation.
  • Foster an inclusive culture of collaboration and excellence and being a role model to the rest of the team.
Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the investment industry and have a solid understanding of institutional clients' needs in Canada.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required to support client meetings, select conferences, and team initiatives.
  • Candidates with broad asset management knowledge (asset allocation, risk-based capital analysis, etc.) and across all asset classes will be viewed favorably.
  • The individual should possess broad investment knowledge of the capital markets with the ability to communicate market insights to clients, and represent fixed income, equity, and asset allocation portfolios to institutional clients.
  • An entrepreneurial business builder, self-starting and motivated to build a business.
  • Capability to independently manage and lead client engagements, many with multiple asset management assignments with our firm.
  • Presence as a thought leader and with the ability to engage external audiences.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment that requires exceptional teamwork.
  • Proactivity and willingness to learn and grow within the role.
  • Proficiency in written communication and strong presentation skills.
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or willingness to obtain the designation.
  • CFA/CAIA or advanced degree is strongly preferred.

At Wellington Management, our approach to compensation is designed to help us attract, inspire and retain the best talent in our industry. We strive to pay employees fairly and competitively across all levels and roles. Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

USD 120,000 - 225,000

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.   

 

Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
