What You’ll Do:
We are looking for a Scientist to support the development of new tests and processes for deployment in our clinical lab.
What You’ll Do:
- Hands on assay development for cutting-edge molecular assays and NGS workflows in support of CAP/ high throughput CLIA/ NYSDOH accredited clinical labs.
- Design and execute research and/or development-related experiments/projects with a high degree of precision and attention to detail. Analyze data, evaluate results, form conclusions and implement improvements.
- Design and execute reagent, equipment qualification and validation studies.
- Demonstrate ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness in design of studies and experiments.
- Generate detailed documentation of experimental methodology, materials and results.
- Train and supervise junior scientific staff.
- Collaborate with and provide scientific leadership to cross-functional teams.
- Ensure activities are consistent with project critical paths and respond appropriately to changing priorities.
- Travel 10% if needed.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. with 3+ years industry experience
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities
- Interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate with clarity
- Proven ability to learn new skills quickly and adapt to new processes smoothly
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a dynamic environment with competing projects and deadlines
- NGS library preparation methods
- Hybrid capture and Illumina sequencing
- PCR methods such as: PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, ddPCR
- DNA / RNA extraction technologies
- Nucleic acid manipulations
- Nucleic acid analysis such as: quantitation by absorbance/fluorescence, gel & capillary electrophoresis
- Magnetic bead-based DNA/RNA purification and size selection
Highly Desirable:
- Experience with cfDNA related protocols and Next Generation Sequencing
- Experience with robotics and automated liquid handling systems
- Experience developing protocols for CLIA laboratories
- Knowledge of LIMS platforms and various computer systems

Illinois Pay Range - $89,000 - $123,000
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
