Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific is currently seeking a Project Engineer (Electro-Mechanical) to assist our R&D and Product Optimization Engineering organization. The candidate will support the design and manufacturing of Water Analysis Instruments mainly passionate about Ion Selective Electrodes used in industrial and lab environments. Project work will focus on design and quality improvements to current products. This hands-on position requires problem solving, collaboration, and experience with mechanical assembly & design.

What will you do?

  • Release New Products from R&D through NPI Process (New Product Introduction) to production lines
  • Provide assistance to R&D, POE Engineering and Scientific Teams to help resolve problems during new product releases
  • Expand Product Portfolio by creating additional Products through Rebranding to other third-party resellers
  • Optimize current product designs to help improve quality and resolve obsolescence issues
  • Provide mentorship for potential automation to help reduce cost and improve production yields
  • Testand address current production components and assemblies to keep production lines going
  • Identify and evaluate replacement components, specifications, testing, and analysis as needed
  • Build and maintain engineering documentation including generation of detail, assembly, and component specification drawings with CAD Solid Modeling design software
  • Work with supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, quality, program management, and other supporting functions to accurately structure new products and document product changes as part of the product development, continuous improvement, and sustaining engineering processes
  • Build documentation and read engineering drawings and specifications, understanding of ANSI/ASME Y14.5
  • Perform root-cause investigations on systems and components to correct problems, improve product quality and reliability
  • Address system issues and electro-mechanical components for timely resolution of quality and production issues
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Compliance, Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Product Management groups
  • Implement Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly concepts to optimize manufacturing processes, ease of service, and identify cost saving opportunities

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Associates Degree can be substituted with consistent track record
  • Knowledge within the instrumentation/laboratory equipment industry

Experience:

  • Experience with production test fixtures
  • Familiar with ERP software (SAP, Oracle)
  • Design, test and solving of functional test fixtures and production lines.
  • Proficient with 3D modeling software; SolidWorks
  • Engineering Project management experience
  • Familiar with Bill of Materials (BOM) and ECO (Engineering Change Order) creation
  • Communicates and works well in multi functional environment
  • Small hand-held device assembly
  • PCB layout and design (Pads)
  • Adhesive bonding of dis-similar materials, Glass, Metals, Plastics and Ceramic
  • Working knowledge of Hydraulics and Fluidics Management
