About Us:

The wholesale distribution industry is ready for a revolution, and Proton is leading the charge. The world relies on distributors to sell nearly every physical product, but despite its massive contribution to the global economy, this industry has been left behind in terms of technology. Proton is changing that. With AI-powered sales software, we’re breaking through the complexity of selling millions of products and making it easier for distributors to anticipate customer needs. Our mission is to bring the distribution industry into the modern age and the results speak for themselves. Distributors using Proton see 10x ROI, faster new hire ramp-up, and happier sales teams.

In 2022, we raised a $20M Series A backed by Felicis Ventures (investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) and Battery Ventures. This year, we’re laser-focused on driving customer growth. If you’re excited about the opportunity to wear multiple hats, and continuously learn and experiment, now’s the time to join the Proton team.

The Role:Why you should apply:

Proton is at an inflection point. We started as a CRM for distributors, and now we’re expanding into a multi-product platform. More products to take to market. More problems to solve. More opportunity for a product marketer to make a real impact. We’re looking for a strategic product marketer who knows how to turn product into pipeline. You’ll own go-to-market for new capabilities, sharpen our positioning in a competitive space, and arm Sales with stories that win. You’ll report to our Head of Marketing and work closely with Product, Sales, and our CEO. From day one, you’ll be executing on the core pillars of product marketing—positioning, messaging, enablement, and launches. We move fast, bias hard toward action, and stay close to the customer. If you want real ownership and the chance to directly shape how a startup makes the leap from product to platform, this is the role.

Comp: $160k-$200k

Note: We care more about drive than a perfect résumé. Maybe you’re running content, sitting in customer success, or doing something else entirely — and you’ve been itching to break into product marketing. If you’re hungry to learn, curious about customers, and not afraid to hustle, apply anyway.

What you’ll own and run with:
  • Positioning & messaging: Develop sharp, no-nonsense messaging that explains what Proton does, why it matters, and how we’re different.
  • Product launches: Work with Product to ensure every feature and add-on we release—ranging from major launches to minor enhancements—has a clear plan for success.
  • Enablement: Create talk tracks, collateral, and resources that help Sales confidently explain and sell what we offer.
  • Customer insights: Get inside the minds of our buyers. Talk to customers, shadow users, and listen to discovery calls to understand their challenges, needs, and how they describe their problems. Use these insights to refine messaging and inform our marketing strategy.
  • Competitive intelligence: Track market shifts and competitor activity to inform messaging and differentiation.
  • Collaborate across teams: Be the go-to expert on our customers—key personas, their pain points, and what makes them tick. Partner with Product, CX, and Sales to make sure everyone is aligned and equipped to deliver on Proton’s potential.
  • AI leverage: Figure out how AI can make you better at your job—whether it’s scaling customer insights, accelerating launches, or uncovering competitive angles.
Who you are:
  • 3–5 years of product marketing experience in B2B SaaS
  • You thrive in the unknown. Ambiguity doesn’t stress you out—it motivates you.
  • A knack for building go-to-market strategies that make new product features and releases resonate with customers.
  • Bias for action—you dive in, figure things out, and make progress, even when it’s your first time tackling something.
  • The ability to write clear, concise product copy and craft stories that connect features to real customer problems and outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills—you can take something complex and explain it simply, without oversimplifying.
  • A head for numbers—you know how to track what’s working, optimize what’s not, and use data to drive decisions.
  • You’re organized and can juggle multiple projects without dropping the ball.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary, quarterly performance bonuses, and meaningful equity
  • Company-sponsored 401(k) program
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO (and we mean it—we want you to take time off)
  • Professional development (get that book, take that course, attend that conference)
  • Encouragement to explore and adopt new AI tools that make your work faster and smarter
  • Incredible training and career growth opportunities
  • A friendly, inclusive, human-first team culture with a strong mix of hustle, productivity, and fun

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
