About the Team

Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. With that aim in mind, we are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform amongst our core audiences. We take a data-driven approach to understand our customers' needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Comms, and Design teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels. Our focus extends beyond just promoting product features; we aim to provide valuable insights and resources that help our users make the most out of AI technologies.

About the role

As the Competitive Intelligence Lead within the Technical Success Team, you'll play a pivotal role in proactively understanding, analyzing, and positioning OpenAI against a rapidly evolving competitive landscape. You'll equip our Go-To-Market (GTM) teams with strategic, actionable intelligence that helps articulate OpenAI’s differentiated strengths across productivity suites, developer ecosystems, and vertical-specific AI applications.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Conduct technical assessments of competitive AI solutions across key domains.

  • Develop and implement a structured competitive intelligence program featuring differentiated live demos, tailored messaging frameworks, and proactive market trend analysis.

  • Partner with GTM leaders (Sales, Customer Success, Product Marketing) to integrate competitive insights directly into corporate messaging, sales pitches, and strategic customer engagements.

  • Deliver real-time competitive updates leveraging advanced AI and analytical tools to ensure strategic agility.

  • Serve as an internal and external thought leader, translating complex competitive dynamics into clear, actionable strategies that drive business impact. Engage directly with key customers to help unblock and drive revenue in highly competitive deals.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • 10+ years of experience in consumer or product marketing, with a strong focus in technology.

  • You have a strong technical background with hands-on experience evaluating complex AI technologies and a deep curiosity to continuously learn about emerging trends.

  • You enjoy translating technical concepts into clear, impactful insights tailored for customer-facing teams and strategic conversations.

  • You're comfortable engaging directly with customers and stakeholders, confidently addressing technical questions and guiding strategic discussions around competitive differentiation.

  • You're proactive, collaborative, and thrive in dynamic environments, driving cross-functional alignment and influencing GTM strategy.

  • You're analytically driven, leveraging data and technical insights to inform and refine competitive strategies continuously.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
