Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.
Tempus is on a mission to improve patient outcomes through data and technology. The Assay E2E team is critical to this mission — we drive the launch of new assays across a growing portfolio of tests by enabling operational excellence, seamless cross-functional collaboration, and scalable systems.
We are seeking a Product Manager to join our team, helping us meet the increasing volume and complexity of assay launches. You’ll partner closely with our internal operations teams — spanning order and sample intake, laboratory, bioinformatics, pathology, variant science and reporting — to build and refine workflows that ensure timely, high-quality launches.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in cross-functional settings, enjoys translating ambiguous requirements into clear roadmaps, and is excited by the opportunity to own mission-critical launches from conception through delivery.
Core Responsibilities
Launch Readiness & Execution
Drive the planning and execution that supports assay launches, ensuring readiness across systems, workflows, and documentation.
Collaborate with operations, R&D, and regulatory to define requirements, identify bottlenecks, and implement scalable solutions.
Support risk mitigation strategies and contingency planning for live or upcoming launches.
Cross-functional Leadership
Translate technical and scientific requirements into structured, implementable product plans.
Serve as the connective tissue across pathologists, regulatory, engineering, customer systems, and reporting teams.
Engage with Marketing, Design, and Commercial teams to gather insights that drive customer-centric experiences aligned with the forefront of scientific advancements.
Represent product needs in cross-team forums and ensure alignment on dependencies and timelines.
Product Development & Optimization
Collaborate with engineering on backlog prioritization, iteration planning, and UAT.
Support and evangelize system enhancements that improve turnaround time for launching assays, reduce manual work, and enable broader assay capabilities.
Leverage learnings from post-launch monitoring to propose and lead improvements to core assay infrastructure and tooling.
Documentation & Communication
Maintain clear launch plans, decision logs, and requirements documentation.
Communicate progress, blockers, and risks to stakeholders proactively and clearly.
Champion the end-to-end launch process by further developing our launch playbook that defines cross-functional roles, critical milestones, and regulatory checkpoints for genomic products.
Required Skills & Experience
3+ years of product management or technical program management experience (preferably in healthcare, diagnostics, or life sciences).
Experience working with agile software development teams and translating requirements into product specifications.
Strong execution mindset with proven ability to manage multiple complex cross-functional projects.
Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and manage complex dependencies across multiple disciplines.
Comfort working with technical stakeholders and systems-level challenges.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in high-stakes or regulated contexts.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a bias toward clarity and structure.
Experience in launch planning or operational tooling.
Understanding of the genomics and oncology landscape, specifically in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and laboratory-developed tests is a plus.
