Product Manager, Platform – Integration Platform

We are looking for a Product Manager to join our Payer solutions team within the Integration Platform zone in Platform Services, where we are working to build products that facilitates seamless data exchange and collaboration between payer and provider organizations.  This is an essential role that gives you the opportunity to drive and execute the product roadmap and execution of our Value Based Care strategy. You will do so in an exciting environment driven by a desire to enable more efficient and effective healthcare.

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will play a crucial part in healthcare by automating and standardizing the exchange of patient’s Admission Discharge Transfer (ADT) notifications. This will help alleviate administrative burdens for healthcare providers and insurers, leading to reduced workload, improved care coordination, and enhanced patient safety for providers, while enabling streamlined claims processing, improved compliance, and better resource management for payers. You will collaborate with internal product teams, engineers, and clients to develop innovative solutions that enhance interoperability, improve patient outcomes, and ensure compliance with industry standards, all while supporting our evolving API-first technology approach.

You will engage daily with scrum teams to define epics, prioritize the product backlog, and make trade-off decisions regarding scope and schedule.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you!

  • You are an outcome-oriented Product Manager with experience in healthcare IT interoperability space

  • You have experience collaborating with clients, business team and internal teams as stakeholders

  • You have demonstrated success at building a long-term roadmap and driving results in a fast-paced environment where you must manage competing priorities

  • You have experience working with colleagues to broaden or narrow the scope of a problem to enable action and create manageable efforts

  • You have demonstrated the ability to propose the most appropriate approach for the need at hand, and you can quickly pivot if this approach fails

  • You see the value in proactively making recommendations for ongoing support and enhancements (updates, self-service)

  • You are interested in industry developments and trends, such as the data interoperability implications of the 21st Century Cures Act, HL7 FHIR standards

  • Prior experience at a Healthcare payer organization is a big plus.

The Team: The Integration Platform zone drives growth and creates meaningful insight from diverse data sources by enabling scaled global integrations. We consider the role of the Integration Platform team to be a critical strategic function in enabling a connected healthcare system.

Job Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert in customer, technology, and regulatory requirements related to healthcare data ingestion and transformation for a range of VBC use cases

  • Contribute to a product vision, develop business cases, ensure a product (or set of product features) meets business requirements, and drive the creation and delivery of the product

  • Define epics and user stories - clearly articulating business requirements for the problems we’re trying to solve, including UX and support requirements with a strong focus on outcomes

  • Drive ongoing backlog allocations and prioritization of opportunities

  • Foster an API-first mentality and execution approach across our organization

  • Collaborate with teams across geo locations and time zones

Typical Qualifications

  • 6+ years of product management or engineering experience

  • Experience working with stakeholders in a business environment across cross-functional groups

  • Understanding of product management best practices, including agile development environments

  • Experience in Healthcare integration standards – FHIR, HL7 CCD is ideal

  • Ability to understand and engage on highly technical details of a problem – you should be able to hold your own as a technical SME with architects and engineering stakeholders.

  • Ability to use data and numbers for crucial decision making

About athenahealth

Here’s our vision: To create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.

What’s unique about our locations?
From an historic, 19th century arsenal to a converted, landmark power plant, all of athenahealth’s offices were carefully chosen to represent our innovative spirit and promote the most positive and productive work environment for our teams. Our 10 offices across the United States and India — plus numerous remote employees — all work to modernize the healthcare experience, together.

Our company culture might be our best feature.
We don't take ourselves too seriously. But our work? That’s another story. athenahealth develops and implements products and services that support US healthcare: It’s our chance to create healthier futures for ourselves, for our family and friends, for everyone.

Our vibrant and talented employees — or athenistas, as we call ourselves — spark the innovation and passion needed to accomplish our goal. We continue to expand our workforce with amazing people who bring diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives at every level, and foster an environment where every athenista feels comfortable bringing their best selves to work.

Our size makes a difference, too: We are small enough that your individual contributions will stand out — but large enough to grow your career with our resources and established business stability.

Giving back is integral to our culture. Our athenaGives platform strives to support food security, expand access to high-quality healthcare for all, and support STEM education to develop providers and technologists who will provide access to high-quality healthcare for all in the future. As part of the evolution of athenahealth’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, we’ve selected nonprofit partners that align with our purpose and let us foster long-term partnerships for charitable giving, employee volunteerism, insight sharing, collaboration, and cross-team engagement.

What can we do for you?
Along with health and financial benefits, athenistas enjoy perks specific to each location, including commuter support, employee assistance programs, tuition assistance, employee resource groups, and collaborative workspaces — some offices even welcome dogs.

In addition to our traditional benefits and perks, we sponsor events throughout the year, including book clubs, external speakers, and hackathons. And we provide athenistas with a company culture based on learning, the support of an engaged team, and an inclusive environment where all employees are valued

We also encourage a better work-life balance for athenistas with our flexibility. While we know in-office collaboration is critical to our vision, we recognize that not all work needs to be done within an office environment, full-time. With consistent communication and digital collaboration tools, athenahealth enables employees to find a balance that feels fulfilling and productive for each individual situation.

athenahealth is committed to a policy of equal employment opportunity—that’s why we recruit and hire applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, genetic information, gender identity, gender expression, or any other factor prohibited by law. We’re happy to provide a reasonable accommodation, for those with a disability, to complete any part of the application process. If you are unable to access or use this online application process and need an alternative method for applying, please contact us at [email protected] for assistance.
