Drive the vision and strategy for Discord's Experimentation Platform, leading improvements and enhancing experimentation across teams.
The summary above was generated by AI

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

As the Product Manager on Experimentation, you’ll drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Discord’s Experimentation Platform. You’ll lead the effort to build systems and tools that increase experimentation confidence and velocity, empowering teams across Discord to develop and ship products more quickly and with greater confidence.

This is a horizontal role, meaning it supports many different teams, and therefore requires someone who is comfortable and fluent working with a diverse set of stakeholders with goals that are sometimes in tension.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Guide the product philosophy, vision, and roadmap for our Experimentation Platform, addressing improvements in our current system
  • Design and oversee development of systematic platform improvements that address known challenges (e.g. bias, sample ratio mismatch, etc.)
  • Partner with Data Science, Engineering, and Product teams to up-level experimentation rigor and self-service utility across functions
  • Develop educational materials and standards to improve experiment design and interpretation across the company

What you should have

  • The humility to do whatever is necessary to drive impact, to thrive in ambiguous environments, and to get excited about finding solutions to complex problems
  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping great software, including responsibilities driving prioritization, trade-offs, and timelines
  • Experience with experimentation platforms, A/B testing frameworks, or causal inference methodologies
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts relevant to experimentation (p-values, confidence intervals, power analysis, etc.)
  • BA/BS in computer science, mathematics, physics, economics, or related field or equivalent years of experience
  • Proven ability to analyze and synthesize data, including writing SQL, Python, and/or R and using BigQuery
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency and effectiveness working closely with engineers
  • A passion for games and the gaming industry

Bonus Points

  • Experience building or improving experimentation platforms at scale
  • A degree in advanced quantitative subjects (e.g. statistics, engineering, finance, math)

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
