U.S. Base Salary Range:
$153,600.00 - $241,340.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE
- The Global Category Manager (GCM) for Environmental Sustainability and Renewable Energy plays a pivotal role within both the Global CAPEX&MRO, cEHS, Utilities and Facilities Management Procurement Team and the Corporate EHS/Environment and Sustainability Team. This position supports Takeda's Planet Imperative, advancing its climate ambition towards net-zero operations by 2035 and net-zero across the value chain by 2040.
- This role involves strategic leadership, tactical execution, and operational oversight to drive innovative environmental sustainability programs. It includes leading renewable energy sourcing and contracting, especially advisor engagements, and leveraging global and regional procurement to ensure cost efficiency, risk mitigation, and alignment with Takeda's net-zero goals.
- Within the Direct Procurement Organization, this role serves as the focal point for developing and implementing global procurement strategies in complex environments to support Takeda's sustainability and net-zero goals. It involves fostering supplier relationships, organizing tenders, negotiating contracts, and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure the company meets its energy, decarbonization, and broader environmental sustainability objectives efficiently.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic Dimension
- Renewable Energy Strategy: Develop a comprehensive global procurement strategy for renewable energy in collaboration with Climate Action and Sustainability Teams in alignment with Takeda's carbon neutrality and net-zero goals. This strategy should include recommended practices and guidelines for risk allocation and mitigation, ensuring alignment with global procurement objectives and Takeda's risk tolerance. Strategic focus to include the full spectrum of renewable energy types and approaches, such as green heat for thermal needs, solar, wind, geothermal, district heating and cooling, heat recovery and recuperation, market mechanisms, aggregated buys, energy storage options, etc.
- Program Development and Industry Support: Provide procurement support to the development and execution of Takeda programs focused on carbon removals, water stewardship, responsible waste management, hard-to-abate initiatives, and industry coalitions. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other pharma companies and environmental experts to identify innovative solutions and partnerships that accelerate progress toward decarbonization and sustainability goals.
- Market Analysis and Future Needs Planning: Evaluate global energy markets aiming to shape strategically the renewable energy agreements (e.g., VPPAs, PPAs), leverage external partners to model pricing and technology trends, anticipated market dynamics, monitor for emerging opportunities, and potential risks.
Tactical and Operational Dimension
Supplier Sourcing and Contracting:
- Prepare and lead tenders for renewable energy, carbon removal, sustainability, broad-range engineering-related net-zero global initiatives, including developing RFx processes, lead bid adjudications and negotiating commercial agreements, incl. power purchase agreements (PPAs), virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs), project-specific SOWs.
- Identify, evaluate, and contract advisory firms and consultants to support renewable energy and environmental sustainability programs in the areas of regulatory compliance, innovation, feasibility studies, and conceptual design consultancy.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Establish and lead Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) programs with select suppliers to monitor and develop supplier performance, foster relationship, enhance collaboration and address external supply challenges proactively.
- Ensure preferred supplier lists for categories and commodities under management are maintained, updated, and effectively leveraged across regions to optimize procurement activities.
Procurement KPIs and Savings Realization:
- Work towards the shared procurement goals and KPIs, ensuring commitments are met.
- Participate in savings planning and realization meetings, ensuring short- and medium-term savings goals are being met.
People Leadership, Cross-functional and Support to Sites:
- Represent CAPEX&MRO Procurement at the Site Steering Committee meetings, plan and manage global CAPEX&MRO team capacity to provide site support required for the local CAPEX&MRO projects.
- Partner with Takeda's Legal, EHS, Environmental Sustainability, and Engineering global teams to align with net-zero operational decarbonization roadmaps.
- Lead a team of regional Sr. Procurement Managers, including their performance management, talent and career development, capacity and succession planning.

- Leadership & Communication: Provides leadership to their own team and teams across multiple sites/functions including leading matrixed teams. Requires excellent interpersonal skills to communicate globally at all levels. Maintains positive working relationships externally with regulatory agencies as required.
- Must be able to work in a complex, matrixed network, managing priorities from site, network and corporate teams.
- Independent and innovative self-starter with proven, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, meet requirements and deadlines from multiple stakeholders and execute tasks strategically in a fast-paced environment.
- People management experience with proven track record of leading global cross-functional project teams and delivering material value across complex categories.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Essential: Degree in life sciences, business, engineering or similar field; 10+ years of strategic and operational procurement experience preferably within a regulated industry; previous experience leading teams across multiple locations; experience collaborating with cross-functional teams; experience in environmental compliance, EHS risk management, environmental programs (waste, wastewater, air pollution, biodiversity, pharmaceuticals in the environment, etc.).
