We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. This is a hybrid opportunity out of our Waltham, MA office.
Job Summary
The Principal Software Engineer works as a technical leader within the Enterprise Access Management (EAM) engineering team responsible for the design, development, and evolution of the web-based administration experience for Imprivata's Identity Configuration Platform (ICP). This role leads the architecture and implementation of modern, scalable, and intuitive user interfaces used to configure identity providers, authentication methods, and federation services including OIDC and SAML. The Principal Software Engineer partners across Engineering, Product Management, UX, and Platform teams to drive technical direction, establish engineering best practices, and deliver secure, high-quality solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of modern web applications for configuring ICP services, including Identity Providers (IdP), OIDC, SAML, and authentication policies.
- Drive technical direction and architectural decisions across multiple engineering teams, ensuring scalable, secure, and maintainable UI solutions.
- Design, develop, and maintain front-end applications using ReactJS, TypeScript, React Router, and modern component libraries such as Ant Design and Lucid React.
- Partner closely with Product Management and UX to deliver intuitive, accessible, and responsive user experiences.
- Establish front-end engineering standards, reusable component patterns, testing strategies, and development best practices.
- Mentor engineers through technical leadership, architecture reviews, code reviews, and design discussions.
- Collaborate with backend, platform, and security teams to deliver end-to-end solutions for identity and access management.
- Drive improvements in application performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.
- Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and architectural approaches to improve engineering efficiency and product quality.
- Work within an Agile development model to scope, plan, and deliver complex software initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned and required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise applications.
- Expert-level experience building modern web applications using ReactJS and TypeScript.
- Strong experience with React Router and component libraries such as Ant Design and Lucid React.
- Deep understanding of front-end architecture, reusable component design, state management, and responsive UI development.
- Experience building secure enterprise applications and integrating with REST and gRPC services. Experience with identity and access management technologies including OIDC, SAML, OAuth 2.0, and Identity Providers (IdP).
- Proven experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams and influencing architectural decisions.
- Experience establishing engineering standards, mentoring engineers, and driving software quality.
- Familiarity with Git, Jira, Confluence, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI-assisted or Agentic Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) practices and modern developer productivity tools.
- Familiarity with AI-powered coding assistants, automated testing, and code review workflows.
- Experience using Figma to collaborate with UX designers and implement modern, responsive user interfaces
This position offers a total compensation range of $157,000.00 - $167,000.00 (inclusive of base salary and variable compensation, such as bonuses and incentives). In addition, more information about Imprivata’s benefit offerings can be found here. This range represents the high and low end of Imprivata’s compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, such as a candidate’s location, skills, experience, and qualifications.
