Principal Product Manager

The Role

SoFi is looking for a Principal Product Manager to lead one of our most strategic product areas. As a senior individual contributor and product leader, you'll set vision, define strategy, and drive execution on complex, high-impact initiatives that shape how our members borrow, save, spend, invest, and protect their money.

This role is inherently cross-functional. You will work closely with engineering, design, data science, marketing, operations, finance, risk, legal, compliance, and executive leadership to set strategy, prioritize features, secure resources, and execute. You'll bridge technical and business worlds to drive profitable business growth while managing risk, and you'll influence broader company strategy well beyond the boundaries of your immediate team.

As a product leader in our organization, you'll be expected to inspire with your vision and roadmap, set ambitious goals, be gritty, and be accountable to results. The specific team and product area will be scoped during the hiring process based on business needs and your background.

What you’ll do

• Own and evolve the product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for your product area.

• Break vision into phases, prioritize, and drive backlogs for launch with your dedicated engineering teams.

• Drive platform and product strategy focused on scalability, reliability, security, and regulatory compliance.

• Partner deeply with engineering to make critical architectural decisions and guide long-term investments.

• Engage with risk, compliance, legal, and security teams to align product capabilities with regulatory requirements.

• Define success metrics and rigorously measure performance, member impact, and business outcomes.

• Lead complex build-vs-buy evaluations, including vendor assessments and technology trade-offs.

• Lead experiments to validate hypotheses and measure impact on key outcomes like member outcomes, engagement, and revenue.

• Influence broader company strategy, mentor other product managers, and raise the bar for product craft across the organization.

• Communicate the vision, strategy, execution plan, and customer impact to all stakeholders, including the highest levels of leadership in the company.

What you’ll need

• Bachelor's degree or higher, ideally in a technical, finance, or quantitative field.

• 8+ years of product management experience.

• Proven track record leading technically complex or highly strategic products at scale.

• Deep technical fluency and ability to collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and architects on trade-offs and design decisions.

• Demonstrated ability to balance long-term platform and product investments with near-term delivery needs.

• Strong cross-functional leadership skills, particularly with engineering, design, data science, security, compliance, legal, and analytics.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity for diverse stakeholders and present to C-level leadership.

• Experience owning end-to-end product delivery and P&L or key business outcomes.

• Comfort navigating ambiguity, trade-offs, and evolving constraints in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• MBA or advanced degree in a technical, business, or quantitative field.

• Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or other highly regulated industries.

• Experience with data-driven, personalized, or AI-powered consumer products.

• Experience building and mentoring high-performing product teams.
