The Role
The Principal Product Manager for Digital for Research will lead the strategic vision, architecture, and configuration of key research informatics platforms, including Benchling, Signals ELN, and Chemaxon. This role will be responsible for stakeholder engagement, product strategy, and platform optimization to ensure scientific research workflows are seamlessly integrated into Moderna’s digital ecosystem. This is a high-impact role requiring deep informatics expertise, strong product management skills, and technical acumen in configuring and optimizing research data platforms. 
 

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Product Strategy & Ownership 

  • Define and own or contribute to the strategic vision, roadmap, and lifecycle for scientific software solutions, such as Benchling, Signals ELN, and Chemaxon, Schrodinger, MOE, and Rosetta to support Moderna’s research teams. 

  • Lead product discovery efforts, working with scientists, computational biologists, and software engineers to define and prioritize key capabilities. 

  • Develop and execute product strategies, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and digital strategy. 

  • Drive innovation in research informatics, ensuring systems are scalable, efficient, and aligned with modern scientific practices. 

  •  Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Act as a critical liaison between research teams, software engineers, IT, and senior leadership to ensure scientific and technical needs are met. 

  • Facilitate requirement gathering workshops, user interviews, and advisory groups to refine system capabilities. 

  • Partner with Digital, R&D, and Data Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between informatics platforms, laboratory systems, and enterprise data architecture. 

  • Advocate for research user needs while balancing technical feasibility, compliance, and business objectives. 

  • Work collaboratively with software engineering to develop comprehensive solutions that combine COTS configuration with engineered solutions 

  • Platform Integration, Data Governance & Compliance 

  • Develop integration strategies that ensure interoperability across research informatics systems. 

  • Partner with IT, security, and compliance teams to ensure all research data platforms adhere to data integrity, privacy, and regulatory requirements. 

  • Drive adoption of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles within research data workflows. 

 
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field with 10+ years of experience in product management, digital informatics, or software engineering in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences setting. 

  • Expertise in Benchling, Signals ELN, and Chemaxon, with hands-on experience in solution architecture, configuration, and integration. 

  • Experience with biology, chemistry, scientific informatics, cheminformatics, and laboratory workflows. 

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, engaging with scientists, engineers, and business leaders. 

  • Proficiency in traditional and Agile methodologies, backlog management, and roadmap planning. 

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills. 

  • Experience with informatics solutions and applications used in the biotech/biopharama research space. 

  • Familiarity with Python, SQL, or scripting languages for data processing and workflow automation. 

  • Experience integrating ELN/LIMS platforms with enterprise data systems.
