Job Description:

Microchip Analog Hi Rel and RF Solutions (HRR), Hi Rel Solutions (HRS) offers one of the industry's most comprehensive power discrete semiconductor product portfolios. Markets that the BU address include Space, defense, commercial aviation, communications, power solutions and security.

For future-growing High-Power Solid-State Electronics especially focused on a Hi-Rel and Space environment.  Requires novel solutions that utilize advances in product engineering, simulation, and modeling to overcome current technology limitations.  Microchip’s HRDS group located in Lawrence MA is searching for forward-thinking scientists, engineers and other innovators interested in building and supporting current products and the roadmap of Power Electronics.  Please join our team that is gifted with the capabilities of several foundries, assembly plants, testing facilities, and broad-based manufacturing.

Role and Responsibilities:

This is a position responsible for working with semiconductor foundry, test, manufacturing, and QA engineers.  Will drive yield and quality improvement, cost reduction; work with suppliers, and subcontractors to qualify materials and electronic packages.

Responsibilities include:

  • Discrete Product Design
  • Discrete Product Characterization and Qualification
  • Customer Facing Engineering
  • Support for ongoing product engineering efforts on qualified products; assist in problem-solving and improving existing products.
  • Drives engineering efforts for new product qualification.
  • Provide custom product engineering support.
  • Create and/or review product documentation including Assembly/Post Assembly Travelers, Screening Travelers, and Data Sheets. Work with Document Control department.
  • Responsible for identifying new product BOMs (Bill of Materials) as they are developed or changes as they are implemented.
  • Provide Product Engineering support to Marketing and Planning groups.
  • Mentor and lead less experienced engineers within the Product Engineering team.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BSEE or relevant Engineering Degree, MS preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience. Ideal candidate experience is in a Semiconductor Manufacturing environment in Product Engineering, preferably for discrete devices.
  • Experience with AC/DC electrical parameter testing for diodes, transistors and MOSFET, including hands-on test characterization and analysis.
  • Experience in radiation effects and testing including TID, SEE & ELDRS.
  • Experience with root-cause and failure analysis, troubleshooting
  • Beneficial if the candidate has a working knowledge of related military specifications including MIL-PRF-19500, MIL-STD-750, and MIL-STD 883 and use this knowledge in reviewing customer drawings. All functions must meet these military standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Six Sigma knowledge.
  • FMEA, DMEA, 5-whys, root-cause analysis.
  • Statistical tools experience – JMP, Minitab.
  • Spice modeling, and parameters extraction.
  • Experience with LabVIew and Silvaco TCAD tool set would be beneficial.
  • Solidworks & ANSYS experience would be beneficial.
  • Microsoft Office skills

Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $75,000-$232,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
