As a Principal Digital Brand Designer I at CMT, you will build a standout, recognizable, and consistent visual brand — and scale it across every surface where CMT shows up. You’ll join a growing creative team and play a central role in shaping how we look and feel across digital, motion, web, and beyond. This role is for a designer who loves the craft of brand building and knows how to leverage modern digital tools and AI to move faster, push further, and make our brand impossible to ignore. You’ll collaborate closely with product, marketing, sales, and recruiting to make sure everything from a trade show booth to a LinkedIn ad to a motion graphic on the homepage looks unmistakably like CMT.

Responsibilities:
  • Build a standout, recognizable, and consistent visual brand that sets CMT apart in mobility, tech, and AI
  • Support branding, revenue, and hiring efforts with standout design across campaigns, sales enablement, recruiting content, and executive communications
  • Maintain CMT’s brand guidelines to give every team the tools to create on-brand work
    • Website media kit, logo system, color, typography, iconography, photography direction, motion principles
  • Ensure brand standards everywhere the CMT brand lives — website, social, paid media, events, sales decks, product UI touchpoints, recruiting materials, OOH
  • Grow a central brand library and drive adoption across Marketing, Sales, Product, and People Operations
  • Build design tools and systems that enable the entire organization to create content quickly and on-brand — templates, automations, and workflows that scale beyond the design team
  • Build and maintain an asset library of on-brand video, photography, icons, and templates for teams to pull from and build on
  • Bring digital design expertise to the role — video, motion, web graphics, and interactive formats — and move the brand forward digitally rather than keeping it locked to print
  • Leverage digital tools and AI to enhance creative output, accelerate production, and expand what a small team can deliver
  • Design digital campaigns and assets: paid social, display, landing pages, animated web content, email, motion graphics for events and product launches
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, Sales, Recruiting, and Events to translate business priorities into creative work that performs
  • Act as a mentor to other designers and creative contributors on the growing creative team, raising the bar on craft
  • Track design and brand trends — especially in tech, mobility, and AI — and find new opportunities for CMT’s brand leadership
  • Consult with other departments to understand their needs and design solutions that work for their audiences
  • Complete any additional tasks that may arise
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in graphic design, digital design, creative arts, or a related field
  • 7+ years of relevant working experience in design, with a strong focus on brand building and digital craft
  • Strong portfolio of brand and digital work — campaigns, motion, web, video, and brand systems
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and motion/video tools (After Effects, Premiere, Figma, or similar)
  • Familiarity with WordPress, HubSpot, and Canva — comfortable designing and publishing within the platforms marketing teams actually use day-to-day
  • Experience building and launching brand guidelines, brand systems, and media kits — and driving adoption across teams
  • Digital-first instincts: comfort with motion, web graphics, interactive formats, and design systems
  • Deep fluency with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and other frontier AI systems — you use them daily to scale your work, automate production, and build tools and products for the organizations you support
  • Hands-on experience with AI photography and video generation (e.g., Midjourney, Runway, Sora, Veo, Flux, or similar), and a point of view on how to use these tools without losing craft
  • Ability to distill complex ideas into simple, effective designs
  • Excellent typography, composition, and visual storytelling skills
  • High level of attention to detail with a results-driven attitude
  • Demonstrated ability in time management and multitasking; the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise wide latitude for independent judgment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player with the desire to mentor and raise the bar on craft
  • Ability and desire to be an evangelist for CMT’s mission and brand
  • Please provide a link to your portfolio
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Fair and competitive salary based on skills and experience, and annual performance bonus
  • Equity may be awarded in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
  • Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance, matching 401k, short-term & long-term disability and parental leave
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off including vacation, sick days & public holidays
  • Flexible scheduling and work from home policy depending on role and responsibilities
Additional Perks:
  • Work on a mission with real impact: crashes prevented, injuries avoided, lives protected around the world
  • Join an industry leader — 65 million drivers protected, powering 140+ programs across 25 countries
  • Be part of the team inventing the future of mobility and road safety
  • Move fast, own outcomes, do work that matters
  • High ownership, small teams, and direct access to leadership — no layers between your work and its impact
  • Unlimited PTO, flexible scheduling, competitive salary, annual performance bonus, RSUs, and full benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401k match

  • Join one of our employee resource groups: Black, AAPI, LGBTQIA+, Women, Book Club, and Health & Wellness
  • Comprehensive wellness, education, and employee assistance programs

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
