Veeva Systems is a mission-driven organization and pioneer in industry cloud, helping life sciences companies bring therapies to patients faster. As one of the fastest-growing SaaS companies in history, we surpassed $3B in revenue in our last fiscal year with extensive growth potential ahead.

At the heart of Veeva are our values: Do the Right Thing, Customer Success, Employee Success, and Speed. We're not just any public company – we made history in 2021 by becoming a public benefit corporation (PBC), legally bound to balancing the interests of customers, employees, society, and investors.

Join us in transforming the life sciences industry, committed to making a positive impact on its customers, employees, and communities.

The Role
As a Principal DevOps Engineer for a new product within Veeva, you will be a founding member of a team building our next major AI-driven platform—one that will transform how Life Sciences companies manage safety, regulatory, and clinical development.

You will influence and help grow a codebase and engineering organization from the ground up, wearing multiple hats across the engineering organization. The team will be AI-first in two meaningful ways: using AI to drive engineering productivity and strong engineering discipline, and building a product that applies AI in genuinely innovative ways to problems that matter.

Within your first year, you will have live customers on the platform and a thriving, growing team behind it—directly accelerating how customers bring life-saving products to market.

What You'll Do

  • Provide in-depth software engineering expertise in cloud architecture, design patterns, and programming
  • Implement core DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), continuous integration, and automated deployments
  • Build and manage robust CI/CD workflows to automate full-lifecycle tasks and elevate developer productivity
  • Provision, manage, and scale infrastructure using Ansible, Terraform, and Kubernetes
  • Drive architectural design, integration solutions, and engineering best practices across the organization
  • Proactively improve system reliability, availability, performance, and durability to minimize operational risk

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps roles, emphasizing tooling, automation, and distributed systems
  • Proven track record as a strong mentor dedicated to developing team capabilities
  • Extensive experience designing and programming applications in AWS
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration tools (Ansible, Terraform)
  • Deep expertise with containerization, serverless architectures, and orchestrators (Kubernetes, OpenShift)
  • Proficient in Python, as well as statically typed languages like Java, Scala, or Go
  • Hands-on experience setting up and managing CI pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, CircleCI, Codefresh)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability frameworks to track system health and performance
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills, with experience in proposals, estimation, and documentation

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SQL, data modeling, and design

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
