Alt is unlocking the value of alternative assets, starting with the $5 B trading-card market. We let collectors buy, sell, vault, and finance their cards in one place and we are backed by leaders at Stripe, Coinbase, Seven Seven Six, and pro athletes like Tom Brady and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Our next frontier is real-time pricing at scale—the Alt Value that powers every trade, loan, and product on the platform.

The Role

We’re looking for a People Operations Lead to serve as the architect and driver of our company’s people and recruitment management processes. This role is about more than filling roles; it’s about building and nurturing a team that believes in our mission and thrives in our culture.

You’ll own both the recruiting engine that fuels our growth and the people systems that make Alt a great place to work, from compensation and performance design to engagement and retention.

What You’ll Do Here:Recruiting & Talent Acquisition
  • Manage the full recruiting lifecycle—from designing job postings and interview processes to managing candidate pipelines and closing offers. This also includes helping build out our recruiting team as we scale.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements, build structured interview loops, and ensure every candidate has a seamless experience.
  • Manage inbound candidates and external sourcing channels/recruiters (e.g., Paraform) to ensure an efficient and transparent hiring process.
  • Maintain a clean ATS (Applicant Tracking System) and create reports and dashboards to drive visibility into the recruiting process.
  • Act as a strong advocate for our brand, clearly articulating who we are, what we do, and why top talent should join us.
  • Oversee onboarding from offer acceptance through the first 90 days, ensuring every new hire has the resources, clarity, and support to succeed.
  • Partner with managers to create structured 90-day success plans and performance checkpoints.
  • Coordinate visa sponsorships, renewals, and work authorization verification in partnership with external counsel.
Benefits & Total Rewards
  • Partner with leadership on annual compensation and bonus review cycles.
  • Design and maintain compensation structures, pay bands, and incentive programs aligned with company goals and market benchmarks. This includes managing the equity grant process, vesting schedules, and exercise procedures in partnership with Finance and Legal.
  • Educate employees on equity compensation and coordinate with third-party administrators.
  • Process payroll through Rippling, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage open enrollment, new hire benefits setup, and qualifying life event changes. This includes answering employee questions and escalations related to benefits.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across all employee locations.
  • Manage Deel for international employees (onboarding, payroll, compliance).
  • Manage tax filings, unemployment claims, workers’ compensation, and proper employment classification (FTE, contractor, international).
  • Oversee contractor relationships and accounts (e.g., First Factory, Toptal).
Performance Management & People Development
  • Partner with the executive team on organizational design, workforce planning, and headcount forecasting to support growth.
  • Build scalable frameworks for performance reviews, goal-setting, and feedback across the organization.
  • Lead biannual performance cycles, including reviews for CEO direct reports.
  • Partner with managers to establish clear career frameworks, leveling guides, and development plans that promote fairness and transparency.
  • Design and implement scalable L&D programs including new manager training, leadership development pathways, and role-specific skill building.
  • Implement quarterly pulse-check surveys to ensure employees feel heard and to proactively identify engagement or retention risks.
  • Own the People Operations budget and provide monthly variance analysis to Finance.
  • Prepare quarterly board reporting on key people metrics including retention, hiring velocity, and engagement scores.
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook to ensure policies reflect current practices and compliance standards.
  • As needed, manage the offboarding process including exit paperwork, benefits termination, equipment return, and system access removal.
  • Conduct exit interviews and track turnover data to identify trends and improve retention.
IT & People Vendor Management
  • Own IT application management, including permissions, access provisioning, and offboarding.
  • Establish and maintain computer ordering, setup, and shipping workflows.
  • Partner with IT vendors/contractors to resolve employee technical issues.
  • Conduct annual People vendor reviews to ensure we're getting optimal value and service.
Culture & Connection
  • Serve as a culture ambassador, ensuring our values are embedded throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Champion initiatives that strengthen connection, recognition, and belonging across a distributed team.
  • Support planning and execution of company-wide events, including the annual offsite.

What We’re Looking For
  • 7+ years of experience in an HR/People Ops role at a startup or high-growth company
  • Deep understanding of our mission and the space we operate in—you want to champion what we do, not just manage processes.
  • Experience spanning both recruiting and HR functions.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and analyze metric-driven compensation frameworks, performance systems, and employee engagement programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance day-to-day execution with longer-term planning.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to inspire candidates and build trust across all levels of the company.
What You’ll Get From Us:
  • A chance to shape the culture and employee experience at a fast-moving, mission-driven company
  • Hands-on exposure to both HR and recruiting processes with growth opportunities ahead
  • $100/month work-from-home stipend
  • $200/month wellness stipend
  • WeWork office stipend
  • 401(k) retirement benefits
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Generous paid parental leave
  • Competitive healthcare benefits, including HSA, for you and your dependent(s)

Base salary range: $180,000-$200,000, plus equity. Actual offer may vary based on experience, location, and other factors.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
