The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company's regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Part-Time Student - UX Researcher for JD Intelligent Solutions Group Urbandale in Urbandale, IA but working remotely, you will:
  • Support John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group's Guidance and Autonomy UX Team and gain industry experience by documenting customer needs, developing research protocols, running customer events, analyzing data, and recommending improvements for our guidance and autonomy products.
  • Operate as part of a data-driven team and build skills in identifying research questions, quickly developing a plan to collect data with a limited number of customers and presenting research analyses/findings back to program leadership.
  • You will receive mentoring/coaching to expand your UX talents and be afforded opportunities to hone your skillset by interacting with real customers to solve real problems.

This position is not available to students on immigration visas.
What Skills You Need
  • Ideally you will be pursuing a PhD in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction or Psychology (Cognitive, Applied, Experimental, etc) or closely related field or equivalent experience
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at an accredited university
  • Graduation date of May 2026 or later
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above
  • Available to work 10-20 hours/weekly during the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 academic semesters
  • Available to work on and complete assignments remotely
  • Available to travel to Urbandale, Iowa, onsite or customer locations in the midwest if needed
  • Core understanding of human factors principles, experimental design, and collecting data with human subjects
  • Ability to review relevant literature in human factors, user experience, and human behavior and use that information to propose research studies or product improvements
  • Comfortable defining and executing contextual inquiry and usability studies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze/interpret data in order to draw conclusions and make recommendations that enhance the user experience
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)

What Makes You Stand Out
  • Familiarity with human-technology teaming research and knowledge of automation and autonomy UX challenges (e.g., trust, reliance, compliance, etc)
  • Experience applying Human Factors principles in the Agriculture, Heavy Machinery, or Transportation industries
  • Experience with statistical analysis and analytics tools and methods
  • Experience facilitating remote data collection studies

$15 - $40 hourly based on published rates for business function and education level.
