Program Description:

The Joseph Nee Collaborative Center is a community based DPH-licensed outpatient behavioral health clinic. Our mission is to provide high quality substance use and mental health treatment services to residents of Greater Boston, regardless of status or ability to pay.

 

Our team of Clinicians, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LADCs), Nurse Practitioner, and Medical Director provide telehealth services, onsite individual counseling, group therapy, medication assisted treatment (MAT), psychoeducation, and case management services to more than 400 clients each year.

 

As part of the Boston Public Health Commission's continuum of care, the Collaborative assists adults and adolescents in a safe, confidential environment who are struggling with a variety of mental health issues.

 

Position Summary:

The Joseph Nee Collaborative Center’s Clinical Internship offers graduate students comprehensive, hands-on training experience in community behavioral health. Interns will work directly with clients experiencing substance use disorders and mental health needs, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions in both individual and group settings. This placement emphasizes the development of core clinical competencies within a supportive and supervised environment, preparing interns for professional licensure and future clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry and manage a direct service caseload.
  • Conduct intake assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide ongoing clinical services.
  • Collaborate with professionals across disciplines to support client-centered care.
  • Deliver evidence-based individual and group therapy interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with agency standards and applicable regulations.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Actively participate in multi-disciplinary Team Meetings and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Receive weekly supervision to support professional growth and prepare for licensure.

  • Learn to effectively engage, assess, diagnose, intervene, and evaluate treatment with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Apply therapeutic modalities including but not limited to:

    • Motivational Interviewing
    • Harm Reduction
    • Group Therapy
    • Stages of Change
    • Trauma-Informed Care
    • Narrative Therapy
  • Develop a thorough understanding of legal and ethical standards related to client confidentiality.
  • Enhance knowledge of interprofessional collaboration and integrated care within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in a graduate-level clinical program (MSW, MA, MS in Counseling, or similar)
  • Must be enrolled in internship/field related coursework and have approval from the college/university to participate in the internship
  • Strong interest in behavioral health, substance use disorder services, and working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and engage in reflective practice.
  • This position requires direct client/patient contact and as a result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties.
