As the Organizational Capability Advisor, you will lead the design and implementation of the framework that measures and accelerates the maturity of critical organizational capabilities – such as product delivery and agility, information management, and customer management – across all lines of business in partnership with capability leaders. This is a high-profile, strategic role that will enable the Board and senior executives to make informed decisions that shape the future of the enterprise. This role blends evaluative research, consulting, change management, and organizational psychology to create actionable insights and drive strategic maturation. You will define problems, design solutions, and partner with senior leaders to ensure the organization continues to evolve as a leading financial institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an Enterprise Capability Framework: Design and implement a maturity model that assesses organizational capabilities and identifies opportunities for growth.

  • Conduct Evaluative Research: Apply qualitative and quantitative methods to understand current state, measure progress, and recommend strategies for improvement.

  • Partner with Subject Matter Experts: Collaborate with internal experts to define standards and data, balance simplicity and complexity, and develop action plans.

  • Consult with Senior Leadership: Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team, providing insights that inform strategic decisions and capability investments.

  • Drive Organizational Change: Work with senior leaders to translate research findings into actionable plans that enhance capability maturity.

  • Vendor & Program Management: Oversee external research partners as needed, ensuring quality and alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Executive Communication: Deliver clear, compelling reports and presentations for senior audiences, including the CEO and Board.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

  • This position does not include direct people management responsibilities.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelors’ degree, or equivalent work experience

  • 8+ years of related experience

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Expertise in Capability Maturity Models & Frameworks

  • Strong background in evaluative research and organizational psychology

  • Demonstrated experience simplifying complex concepts

  • Consulting experience with proven ability to define problems and design holistic solutions

  • Experience developing frameworks grounded in research and driving enterprise adoption

  • Skilled in executive communication, facilitation, and influencing senior stakeholders

  • Familiarity with program governance, change leadership, and cultural diagnostics

  • Advanced proficiency in research tools and data visualization platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, Power BI, Tableau)

  • Master’s degree in Organizational Psychology, Business, or related field preferred

Work Model & Office Locations:

This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring onsite presence four days per week at one of M&T Bank’s regional offices. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to one of the following locations:

  • 115 Federal Street, Boston, MA

  • 1 Light Street, Baltimore, MD

  • 1350 I Street NW, Washington, DC 20005

  • 1100 North Market Street, Wilmington, DE

Anticipated Travel Requirements:

  • Employees in this position should be prepared to travel at least once per month.

  • Travel frequency may fluctuate based on business demands and the nature of assigned projects.

  • Employees located outside the Buffalo or Boston markets are generally expected to travel more frequently than those based in these areas.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $107,500.00 - $179,100.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
