Job Description
The Underwriting Case Specialist role is a bridge from customer service and college professionals aspiring to full Life Underwriting authority.?
?
This position is integral in our Underwriting Career path and you will have hands-on interaction with Life Underwriters in their development of offers to improve the advisor and customer experience.??
?
Role and Responsibilities
Works closely with the Agency New Business Coordinators, MassMutual?s Producing Agents, Underwriters, Case Managers and New Business Operations staff and clients, to review and facilitate the issue of all submitted life application packages.??
Complete application review of contractual and regulatory requirements, as well as some underwriting risk selection for cases meeting defined criteria for age, face amount, health history and other risk elements.? Complex cases, or those falling outside of these predetermined criteria, will be referred to line underwriters.
Strong field relations, exceptional knowledge of underwriting platforms, responsiveness and attention to detail are a must.?
Thirst for development to include ongoing training, education and skills based on business need and capacity requirement for specialized and evolving risk assessment.?
Critical partner to a team of 10-15 Life Underwriters to drive a "service now" experience with Customers, Advisors and New Business Coordinators.
Aptitude to learn underwriting policies, guidelines, practices and procedures?
Tailor communication style to fit a variety of target audiences, i.e. agency, new business personnel and foster relationships with advisors and third party partners
Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision making and to select profitable risks
Build trust and foster strong rapport with colleagues, business partners, and third party customers

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
1-3 years of customer / field support roles like Customer Care or Case Management
Ability to think critically, problem solve using data to drive toward resolution?
Positive, inclusive, agile, and collaborative mindset
Strong verbal and written communication skills
?
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree
Working knowledge of life and disability products and features
Experience with underwriting or interest in an underwriting career in a fast-paced work environment
Life insurance underwriting experience?
Knowledge of disability underwriting
Third party distribution, banks or wire house underwriting experiences
Reinsurance experience
Taken LOMA/FLMI courses or FALU / FLMI course work in progress
