Job Description:
This leadership role is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial, analytical leader and problem-solver who enjoys building and is excited by the dynamics of an early-stage environment which requires balancing high-level strategy and long-term planning with agile and creative real-time problem solving. The Senior Director of Global Category Management will be responsible for overseeing and scaling our category management strategy across both our North America and International markets. You will expand, coach and develop a multi-tiered category, vendor management, and catalog optimization team to drive the overall strategic direction and future success of our e-commerce business across 150+ countries, and you will partner with the e-commerce and cross-functional leadership group to optimize our business for scalability and rapid growth.

As a core member of the senior e-commerce team, you will have high visibility across the organization and our executive group, and will be a critical leader and driver of tangible economic and profitability growth for the company.
The position will report to the Senior Vice President of eCommerce.
Responsibilities:

  • Manage and scale the eCommerce category management vertical, which includes supplier and merchant sourcing and onboarding, strategic supplier management, pricing negotiations and promotional sourcing, and catalog optimization
  • Build and manage a high performing, dynamic team to drive strategic and rapid growth in the context of our unique, blended B2B and B2C model
  • Oversee a team of ~20 across our co-located headquarters in the US and Dublin; continue to evolve and optimize team structure for rapid growth and to support your plan
  • Constantly assess performance and make data-driven decisions in our test-and-learn culture to validate hypotheses, inform business priorities, and adapt the strategy for our offering based what is working and not working; work closely with the team to utilize data to drive action and report on progress
  • Establish creative strategies to significantly scale our vendor partnerships, identifying and leading our largest global opportunities for expansion, including entering directly into challenging countries such as India, China, and parts of Africa; shift priorities and resources as needed to maximize profitability, and streamline and optimize our processes for growth
  • Partner with and influence a diverse set of internal stakeholders to solve complex business problems across the business; our e-commerce function is matrixed with specialized, expert teams, so this position will be responsible for developing and executing a cohesive strategy across E-Commerce, Operations, Product & Engineering, Customer Success, Sales, Marketing & Finance. This requires understanding, influencing, and motivating many different teams and individuals to support and drive towards our broader e-commerce goals
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, and other cross-functional teams to build the next phase e-commerce experience for our clients and to maximize the scalability of our partnerships, technology, and overall client satisfaction with the order and delivery experience. This includes the process of roadmap development for new vendor onboarding, further defining the workflow, processes and documentation needed as we continue to scale
  • Lead pricing strategy development to optimize for client-level, revenue, and margin goals in partnership with analytics and core eCommerce
  • Lead and develop your teams on best-in-class category and catalog management strategies, partnership management and negotiations strategies and tactics
  • Serve as a company expert on and evangelist for our e-commerce strategy, offering, and technology capabilities, delivering a comprehensive understanding of our business drivers as we continue to scale
  • Maintain a clear perspective on market trends, pricing and best practice across retail and e-commerce in the categories we sell


Skills/experience required:

  • 12+ years of experience in an e-commerce or general management capacity
  • Experience recruiting, developing & managing a high-performing team; ability to inspire and motivate a team around a vision and tangible business goals and manage through challenges and uncertainty
  • Entrepreneurial leader - ability to develop and lead strategy while getting down in the weeds with the team to drive fast and effective execution with limited resources
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results in an unstructured environment
  • Demonstrated results on self-initiated vision/strategy, from opportunity identification to stakeholder alignment to delivered impact
  • Deep experience in vendor and client negotiations; able to articulate strategic roadmap to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly adaptable - able to navigate new challenges resourcefully and confidently adjust to circumstances at hand, regardless of whether you have all the information and answers
  • An evangelist who can get stakeholders on board with a plan and leverage cross-functional resources to get things done
  • Senior presence with extensive experience presenting to diverse audiences, using persuasive communication tactics, and gaining buy-in at all levels across an organization
  • Strong business and data analytics skills with extensive experience in Excel (pivot tables) and PowerPoint
  • Innovative and data-driven problem-solving skills - dissect and determine root causes of problems and challenges and implement solutions
  • Player/Coach mentality; eager and motivated by the opportunity to develop the bench as our team continues to grow
  • Desire to make an impact on business decisions with data; possess a balance of strong quantitative and analytical skills with a passion in business and leadership
  • E-Commerce experience strongly preferred
