The College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) is a collaborative community within the university that acts as a catalyst for research, inspiration, and discovery. It brings together a unique combination of disciplines, including Architecture, Art+Design, Communication Studies, Journalism, Media and Screen Studies, Music, and Theatre. CAMD is also home to the Center for the Arts; the newly launched Center for Design and the Center for Communication, Media Innovation, and Social Change; and the CAMD Media Studios Organization (MSO).
About the Opportunity:
The College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) at Northeastern University is seeking interdisciplinary candidates for an academic year, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, with a record of excellence in critically-engaged research and/or creative practice that advances the concept of AI-mediated telepresence, where technology is used to enhance connection across distance in areas such as telemedicine, telehealth, immersive/AI-mediated shared environments, and human information networks beginning in academic year 2027-2028.
A successful candidate could focus on research areas pertaining to design, development, management, and deployment of telepresence and AI in real-world contexts and practices, including (but not limited to): immersive, AI-powered, and digital health technologies; embodied intelligence; immersive social presence; human-agent teaming; the relationship between telepresence and AI; AI-mediated remote teaching and learning; distributed simulation and training, including clinical, professional, and educational training; and/or multi-modal experience design. A program or demonstrated potential for externally funded research and/or industry partnerships is required.
Areas of application may encompass health system impact, community impact, rural health, simulation, remote and/or immersive learning, brain and physical health, virtual reality therapy platforms, virtual art therapy, AI/smart devices, wearable devices including exoskeletons, robotics, rehabilitation, advanced manufacturing and design, and collaborative design practices.
We are particularly interested in candidates qualified for joint appointment between two or more of the College of Arts, Media and Design, the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, Khoury College of Computer Sciences, and the College of Engineering. This position is at Northeastern University's Boston campus.

In addition, a strong and effective faculty development strategy is part of the Northeastern institutional mission. The ADVANCE Office of Faculty Development works in conjunction with the Office of Research Development (ORD), the Office of Belonging, the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning Through Research (CATLR), and University Decision Support (UDS) to provide programs and trainings to further develop and support a thriving faculty.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in area of expertise, including courses in the core curriculum and our interdisciplinary programs; mentoring students at undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels in area of expertise; maintaining a strong program of interdisciplinary research that attracts external funding and/or recognition; and participating in departmental, college and university service.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, in Design, Media Studies, Architecture, Communication Studies, Computer Science, Health Science, Public Health, Informatics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Bio/Biomedical Engineering, or other terminal degree in a closely related field such as an MFA or M.Arch by the employment start date; and demonstrated potential to attract external funding for research and/or creative practice.
Appointments at the Associate Professor rank require a minimum of 5 years of related experience. Appointments at the Full Professor rank require a minimum of 10 years of related experience.

Pay Range:
Assistant Professor: $94,000.00 - $124,000.00 | Associate Professor: $104,000.00 - $145,000.00 | Professor: $117,000.00 - $200,000.00With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
