The New Media & Content Specialist is responsible for creating, managing, and deploying high-impact content across social, web, and multimedia channels, with a strong emphasis on real-time and rapid response social media execution. This role blends storytelling, editorial planning, and production to increase audience engagement, strengthen brand awareness, and respond quickly to emerging moments, trends, and conversations.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-moving environments, demonstrates excellent editorial judgment, and can produce and publish timely content without sacrificing brand voice, accuracy, or quality.
Responsibilities:
Content Creation
- Create multimedia content including short-form video, graphics, and written posts.
- Rapidly produce and edit content in response to breaking news, cultural moments, industry developments, and campaign opportunities.
- Manage production of product enablement content, coordinating with product, design, and content delivery teams.
- Ensure all content aligns with brand voice, messaging, and governance standards, even under tight timelines.
- Use insights to refine content strategy, improve response speed, and maximize impact.
Rapid Response & Real-Time Social
- Monitor social platforms, news cycles, and audience conversations for opportunities requiring immediate engagement.
- Develop and publish rapid response content to capitalize on timely moments, trends, and announcements.
- Coordinate with communications, marketing, and leadership teams on approvals and escalation paths for real-time content.
- Exercise strong editorial judgment to balance speed, relevance, and risk.
Publishing & Distribution
- Publish and distribute content across social media platforms.
- Optimize content format, timing, and cadence by platform.
- Support integrated marketing campaigns with timely and adaptive content execution.
Community Engagement
- Monitor comments, direct messages, and mentions in real time.
- Surface insights, sentiment, and emerging themes to internal stakeholders.
Trend Monitoring & Innovation
- Stay current on platform updates, algorithm changes, cultural trends, and emerging formats.
- Identify moments where rapid response content can advance brand relevance and visibility.
- Test new tools, workflows, and formats to improve speed, quality, and scalability.
Required Background & Skills:
Platforms
- Hands-on experience managing real-time content across major social platforms including Reddit, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X.
- Experience with video-first and fast-moving platforms preferred.
Tools & Technology
- Hands-on experience using AI-powered tools for content creation, editing, social listening, trend detection, or performance optimization (e.g., generative writing, video editing, sentiment analysis, or analytics tools).
- Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI workflows for creative production and real-time marketing.
Soft Skills
- Exceptional editorial judgment and decision-making under pressure.
- Strong writing, storytelling, and visual communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly in dynamic environments.
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working cross-functionally.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 2–5 years of experience in digital media, social media, journalism, or campaign-driven environments.
- Demonstrated experience producing rapid response or real-time social content is strongly preferred.
- Portfolio or examples of digital and real-time content required.
Compensation:
Mattermost takes a market-based approach to pay. Actual compensation may vary based on location, skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. U.S. locations are categorized into one of three zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area.
- Zone A: $103,170 – $139,582
- Zone B: $98,011 – $132,603
- Zone C: $92,853 – $125,624
These ranges may be updated in the future. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.
