In your role, you will educate, promote and communicate to brokers and employers on the benefits of pet health insurance as well as being a critical partner in the future growth and development of pet health insurance.

 

Most importantly, as a National Account Executive, you will succeed by building on an already established territory, increase the already top of mind awareness around pet health insurance while being the face of the company.  This highly visible role provides the freedom of a work from home environment, while still being highly collaborative and engaged with key internal partners and support staff.

 

In this role, you will work as the point person, in one of Nationwide’s fastest growing businesses.  As such this role requires strong communication and organizational skills.  This allows you to use your background, skills, and passion to increase the already strong brand presence of Nationwide Insurance.

 

This is a remote position with travel to broker offices and other external partners about 50% of the time, travel expenses covered as part of the role.  Strong base salary with competitive, uncapped, incentive compensation structure. Candidate can reside anywhere in the United States.

Job Description Summary

Do you want to help people protect their pet’s health and their financial freedom to take care of them? Do you want to help employers enhance their benefits to attract, retain and engage top talent for their organizations? We are the first and largest pet health insurer in the United States, and we’re looking for the best people to help us on our way to protecting the health of one million pets. As a National Account Executive, we’ll count on you to help employers implement and communicate a new benefit to their employees by creating awareness through multifaceted communication. It will be important for you to foster, nurture and maintain relationships with clients, brokers and third-party administrators to increase plan participation rates. In addition, you’ll need to take an analytical look toward strategy, results and communication plans to succeed in this role.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Builds relationships with existing clients, brokers, and third-party administrators (TPA) within an assigned region to increase group account participation rates in partnership with business development executive; focus is on companies with broker relationships within their designated territory.

  • Develops opportunities to discuss pet insurance products directly with the employees of organizations offering pet insurance as a voluntary benefit.

  • Analyzes opportunities and prioritizes activities given expected number of policies, stage of development and premium value.

  • Executes marketing surveys and other campaigns to determine level of interest in membership and company products and services

  • Uses customer relationship management platform (Salesforce) to actively report all contact management and sales actions in an accurate and timely manner. Resolves issues and questions involving clients, brokers, and TPAs involving sales transactions, account setups, billing and payroll deductions, marketing literature and ongoing service issues.

  • Consults with management regarding business opportunities requiring company accommodations for commission payments, sales expenses, additional marketing support and other expense factors.

  • Coordinates communications with marketing about enrollment roll-outs, literature, customized materials and other requests.

  • Works with client and pet insurance group account administration to coordinate payroll deductions and billing and to set up new accounts.

  • Attends regional conferences, trade shows and other events to produce and convert leads.

  • Maintains an extensive knowledge of the voluntary benefits industry in order to apply learning and techniques to drive policy participation within accounts.

  • Presents pet insurance products to employees, Human Resources Directors and brokers to explain the value, benefits and processes associated with the product. Leverages various means to conduct these meetings in person, via phone or online.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Group Accounts Sales Manager. Direct reports not typically assigned. Indirect reports not typically assigned.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, sales or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Possession of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record and proof of insurance, as required by the company. Licensed property and casualty agent preferred but not required. If candidate/employee is not licensed upon hiring date, a license will need to be obtained within 60 days of hire date and remain compliant with various departments of insurance requirements during the course of employment.

Experience: Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in account sales, preferably in an insurance company or agency and involving health care-related insurance products.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Health insurance products, services, and terminology; voluntary and payroll deduction employee benefit plans; health and property and casualty brokerage practices and third-party administrators; sales methods and closing techniques; account management techniques.

Ability to exercise initiative in translating leads to business opportunities and accounts; independently organize and manage work tasks to achieve effective use of time; make persuasive presentations and communicate effectively with brokers, TPAs, clients, internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak in front of others; to lead; to facilitate; and to train small to large groups including employees, policyholders, and outside groups. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Employees work in normal office and/or normal home office environments. Employees are expected to occasionally bend, stoop, reach, lift, and carry equipment, collateral, and materials used at vendor fairs, open enrollments, and trade shows, weighing up to 50 pounds. Some travel required with possible overnight stay.
