Job Description:

As a key member of the MultiLife business line, the Inforce Life Illustration Consultant partners with Financial Professionals and internal stakeholders to deliver accurate, compliant illustrations at both the plan and policy level for corporate-owned (COLI) and corporate-sponsored, individually-owned (CSIO) programs. Unlike traditional one-policy-at-a-time work, this role operates at scale—ingesting and validating census files, producing composite (“composition”) illustrations, and modeling mixed underwriting cohorts (GI/SI/FU) across hundreds or even thousands of lives.

Serving as a subject matter expert in product mechanics and tax testing, the Consultant safeguards data integrity, drives timely turnaround, and ensures a seamless experience for both Financial Professionals and plan sponsors. The role proactively updates projections as conditions evolve, collaborates with internal teams to manage workflows and support case design, and delivers insights into policy performance to guide decision-making. Operating under limited supervision, the Consultant may also mentor colleagues and help elevate team expertise.

Job Responsibilities

  • Census-Driven Illustration Production
Ingests, validates, and normalizes census files (CSV/XLSX) with strict field mapping (e.g., Client ID, Plan ID, DOB, compensation class, tobacco status, face amounts). Builds composite (“composition”) illustrations and plan-level summaries, and generates individual packets when needed for executives, outliers, or exceptions.
  • Inforce Re-Projections & Cohort Modeling
Executes batch re-projections for plan changes such as salary updates, new entrants or terminations, face-amount adjustments, and premium mode changes. Models mixed underwriting cohorts (Guaranteed Issue, Simplified Issue, Full Underwriting) and rate-class distributions, including tobacco splits and age-band impacts. Translates plan rules (e.g., benefit formulas, caps) into scalable illustration inputs and produces consolidated plan-level outputs such as cash values, cost of insurance, and premium roll-ups.
  • Product & Process Expertise
Serves as a subject matter expert on life insurance products, tools, and illustration systems. Provides support to Financial Professionals by explaining new products, riders, and features that enhance case design and client outcomes.
  • Workflow Management
Collaborates with Financial Professionals, underwriting, new business, and client services teams to ensure smooth handoffs and seamless processes from illustration through policy issue.
  • Reporting & Insights
Delivers data-driven insights on policy performance, historical trends, and scenario modeling to guide client and plan-level decision-making.
  • Client Case Support
Assists with complex case design by modeling multiple scenarios, tax treatments, and cash-flow strategies to help build optimal solutions for clients and plan sponsors.
  • Resource Optimization
During periods of lower illustration volume, supports the MultiLife Inforce team with non-financial, routine transactions to maximize operational efficiency and resource utilization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of life insurance products (UL, IUL, VUL, WL) and illustration systems, with familiarity in COLI/CSIO markets preferred.
  • Experience working with census-driven data, batch processing, or large-scale modeling (hundreds to thousands of lives).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables) and ability to validate and normalize large datasets (CSV/XLSX).
  • Solid understanding of underwriting cohorts (GI/SI/FU), plan rules, and tax considerations (e.g., MEC/7702).
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear outputs for Financial Professionals and plan sponsors.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively with Financial Professionals, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities with limited supervision.
  • Ability to leverage AI-driven tools and automation technologies to enhance illustration workflows, improve data validation, and deliver faster, more accurate insights.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, actuarial science, or related field, Preferred
  • 5-7 years of MultiLife (Executive Benefits) Inforce Illustration experience
  • Preferred, or
  • 7 – 10 years related work experience in the Life insurance industry, Required

Base Salary Range: $70,000 to $85,000

So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
