Job Responsibilities:

The Mechatronics Engineer will work directly as a member of a new product development team, applying their expertise to deliver a novel, integrated system to solve immediate customer challenges. Responsibilities include:

  • Problem solve on a cross-disciplinary product team to advance designs from conceptualization to customer acceptance.
  • Work independently on pieces of systems, or with other engineering disciplines to ensure a cohesive system design.
  • Design practical solutions both quickly and carefully, independently preempting issues of manufacturability and future maintenance.
  • Conduct hands-on prototyping, utilizing shop tools and equipment to quickly iterate ideas and solutions.
  • Perform test, verification, and troubleshooting of prototype and production systems.
  • Design and execute tests to disambiguate between candidate solutions, find the best approach, and convince the team of your conclusion.
  • Perform system design analyses, including reliability, design-for-manufacture, design-for assembly, cost-takeout, etc.
  • Develop production and support documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and maintenance instructions.
  • Transform tested conceptual solutions into robust product designs in coordination with engineering operations, the customer and contract manufacturers.
  • Travel to suppliers and customers as necessary to support build and installation of system.

Telecommuting is an option as long as the employee is based in the Bedford, MA region as the employee must report to the company offices in Bedford, MA at least three days per week.


Travel Requirement: 5% Domestic travel per year.

Education, Experience and Skills Requirements:

Employer requires at least a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics engineering, or a closely related engineering field, and three (3) years of work experience in any occupation within the robotics or industrial automation industry. Alternatively, the Employer will accept a master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics engineering, or a closely related engineering field, and two (2) years of work experience in any occupation within the robotics or industrial automation industry.


Additionally, the successful candidate must have:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of conveyor systems, robot arms, photo-eyes, proximity sensors, VFD drives, barcode scanners, and safety controllers gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability designing and controlling motion systems with sensors, actuators, and complex mechanisms for industrial settings, including selection of appropriate motors, linear actuators, and pneumatic systems gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability leading selection, prototyping, and initial design of new sensing options, such as barcode scanners, beam-breaks, pressure sensors, and force sensors gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams, and system-level drawings gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability troubleshooting electrical systems, sensors, mechanical systems, and controls logic gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability developing industrial control systems including PLC programming and communications protocols such as IO-Link and Profinet, gained through at least two (2) years of work experience.

All years of experience may be gained concurrently. One hundred twenty thousand dollars and zero cents per year to one hundred thirty-five thousand dollars and zero cents per year.
