As part of the Mechanical Product Development team within the flagship Global R&D Product Engineering division, your work is visible, rewarding and innovative.

Bose Global R&D Mechanical Engineers work with interdisciplinary development teams in our Framingham headquarters, as well as at design and production facilities in Mexico, Europe and the Far East. You will take an active role in designing products to ensure they provide truly astounding audio and meet aggressive cost models by drawing on deep knowledge in areas such as plastics, metals, environmental compliance, PCBs, aesthetics, and reliability. You will use your technical knowledge, problem solving skills, understanding of materials, experience in product development (audio product experience is helpful but not required), critical analysis skills and teamwork for responsibilities such as:
Responsibilities:
- Work with a multi-disciplinary team through product development and manufacturing phases.
- Identify and solve challenging mechanical engineering problems by creating functional prototypes and new technologies for In-the-Home and On-the-Go Audio products.
- Evaluate design options through computer modeling as well as measurements and evaluation of physical prototypes.
- Draft mechanical specifications, verification and validation plans and execute verification testing.
- Complete detailed design in collaboration with manufacturing partners to meet program objectives.
- Support designs and documentation through manufacturing startup and continuing engineering.
- Communication with local/global Bose teams and vendor base
Mechanical Engineering Requirements and Skills:
Your strong background in Mechanical Engineering must include:
- Strong problem-solving experience in mechanical design and development of high volume consumer products.
- Experience with a variety of materials including molded plastics, elastomers (particularly silicones), aluminum, and steel. Quantitatively understand these materials, their use, their feel, and their properties.
- Collaborate with Industrial Designers/Artists and User Experience (UX) to realize exceptional cosmetic and touch experiences in high volume production.
- Have a sense for the elegance and impression created by our design in the hands of our customers.
- Design parts, in a wide range of sizes, and products that can be produced in high volume with flawless cosmetic and functional performance.
- Design solutions with a practical plan for their fabrication and assembly.
- Develop solutions to complex problems requiring regular use of ingenuity, creativity and technical expertise
- 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawings with NX. Familiarity with SolidWorks.
- Work hands-on in the lab to evaluate/test/analyze/fix design prototypes and production systems.
- Familiarity with PCB layout and fab and MCAD/ECAD data exchange.
- Interface and collaborate with Joint Development Manufacturers and Contract Manufacturers (domestically and in Asia) to achieve cost, schedule and design efficiencies and flexibility.
- Familiarity with product data management systems and change notices (CNs) preferably using Windchill.
- Must have ability to apply creativity, sound engineering principles, and hands-on execution to effectively solve problems.
- The ability to construct or modify hardware parts or models with some proficiency in the use of simple hand tools also valuable.
- Knowledge of high volume, consumer electronics product development is preferred but not a hard requirement.
- Experience with the design of products for EMI, UL, FCC or CSA compliance is preferred but not a hard requirement
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 3-7 years’ work experience, preferably with high volume products.
