What You Will Be Doing

As a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern, you will join our mechanical group to support the development of next generation clean energy solutions, gaining hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, and validation for our battery energy storage system (BESS) product line. You will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to real product development efforts that advance our progress toward a sustainable energy future.

What You Will Do

  • Support the design and development of mechanical components, modules, and assemblies for next generation BESS products.

  • Assist with prototyping, testing, and validation activities in the lab and production environments.

  • Contribute to 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design studio, hardware engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, and operations.

  • Support documentation efforts including drawings, design records, and test reports.

  • Take ownership of a defined project that delivers tangible value to the team by the end of the internship.

What You Will Learn

  • How mechanical design contributes to the development of clean energy products from concept to mass production.

  • Industry-standard CAD tools (Solidworks) and GD&T practices.

  • Design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.

  • Validation testing methodologies, product reliability, and failure analysis fundamentals.

  • How mechanical engineering integrates with electrical, hardware, and manufacturing disciplines in a real product development environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical design principles.

  • Coursework or project experience with 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred, others accepted).

  • Familiarity with 2D drafting and engineering drawings.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a hands-on lab and prototype environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in GD&T, tolerance analysis, or design for manufacturability.

  • Project experience designing or building physical products (academic, personal, or internship).

  • Interest in battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar (PV), or clean energy technology.

  • Exposure to rapid prototyping methods (3D printing or quick-turn mockups).

  • Familiarity with structural FEA or simulation tools.

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in an engineering environment.\
