Description of Work

Have you ever wanted to work at a zoo? Want to be part of a dynamic and unique organization that saves wildlife and wild places? The North Carolina Zoo is looking to hire a Marketing Webmaster to join the Zoo's Communications and Marketing team. The position reports directly to the Chief Public Relations Officer.
The Marketing Webmaster helps to drive traffic to the Zoo through effective management of the Zoo’s website, while also supporting internet based marketing initiatives. The role requires working collaboratively with the Zoo’s creative team to improve visual impact, strengthen online information, and enhance accessibility for all users.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serves as web content manager and editorial lead for the Zoo’s official website.
• Creates new feature content and designs effectively, engaging page layouts to maximize impact.
• Acts as liaison with website vendors and meets regularly with website contributors to provide guidance and technical support.
• Implements internet-based marketing initiatives and ads to drive traffic to the Zoo and amplify core messaging.
• Monitors/responds appropriately to site analytics and performance metrics.
• Works collaboratively with other members of the Zoo’s creative team to enhance website visuals, information, and accessibility.
• Fulfills Public Relations duties as needed and on a rotating basis with other members of the Zoo PR team.

Recruitment Range:   $50,088 - $64,528

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

  • Prior experience managing websites for government entities or tourism organizations

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or similar intranet tools/systems

  • Experience with photo/video editing or resizing images for web

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to problem-solve creatively and proactively 

Position/Physical Requirements

  • Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm and some weekends or evenings as needed for special events, rotational PR assignments, or other tasks as needed

  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs on occasion

This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCR’s Telework Policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Section/Unit Description 

The primary purpose of the Communications section: to align the communications (inclusive of marketing, online, creative, and guest experience) with the business and mission objectives to raise attendance, revenue, educational opportunities and public awareness of the North Carolina Zoo; to position the Zoo as a premier travel destination not only in North Carolina, but along the Eastern seaboard; to provide internal and external communications through marketing, social media and earned media; to provide exceptional guest experience programs; to continuously improve customer service, transportation, safety and security; to cultivate potential partners; and to provide consistent, recognizable branding.
