Role Overview
Zeta Global is seeking a hands-on Senior Engineering Manager to lead a critical area of the application platform that powers the Zeta Marketing Platform (ZMP).
Reporting to SVP Engineering, this leader will own the technical execution, architecture, roadmap, and delivery for one or more core platform domains. The role requires strong technical judgment, exceptional engineering leadership, and the ability to drive complex initiatives across multiple engineering teams.
This is a deeply technical leadership role. The Senior Engineering Manager is expected to remain actively involved in architecture, design reviews, technical decision-making, and production operations while developing engineers and technical leads and delivering reliable platform capabilities at scale.
Platform Engineering Mission
Platform Engineering delivers the shared application primitives, services, and guardrails that enable product engineering teams to build consistent, scalable, secure, and reliable applications across ZMP.
The team's mission is to provide reusable platform capabilities that improve developer productivity while ensuring platform consistency, operational excellence, and long-term architectural sustainability.
Scope of Ownership
Own multiple core application platform domains, which include, but not limited to:
- Platform authentication and authorization
- Account, organization, workspace, and tenant management
- Notifications and messaging infrastructure
- Shared application services and reusable platform primitives
- Platform APIs, API Gateway and extension mechanisms
- Common developer frameworks and platform tooling
- Shared operational capabilities
The Senior Engineering Manager is accountable for the architecture, implementation, operational excellence, and adoption of their platform domains.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead the architecture and technical direction for assigned platform domains.
- Translate platform strategy into executable engineering roadmaps.
- Drive technical design for shared services, APIs, schemas, and reusable platform capabilities.
- Review designs and ensure alignment with platform architecture and engineering standards.
- Identify scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability risks.
- Champion reusable solutions and eliminate unnecessary duplication across product teams.
- Guide migrations, versioning, and adoption of platform capabilities.
Engineering Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing team of platform engineers and technical leads.
- Coach and develop engineers through mentoring, technical guidance, and regular feedback.
- Establish clear ownership, accountability, and engineering best practices within the team.
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, engineering quality, and continuous improvement.
- Balance new platform investments with operational responsibilities and technical debt.
- Work with other engineering teams to champion the platform domains and their benefits, drive adoption of the services
Platform Delivery
- Deliver platform capabilities that simplify and accelerate product development.
- Partner with product engineering teams to understand platform requirements and improve developer experience.
- Build self-service capabilities that reduce friction and increase platform adoption.
- Measure platform success through adoption, reliability, developer productivity, and operational efficiency.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with Product Engineering, Data Platform, Architecture, SRE, DevOps, Security, and FinOps teams.
- Coordinate delivery of initiatives that span multiple engineering teams.
- Resolve technical dependencies and implementation challenges.
- Drive alignment around platform standards and engineering best practices.
- Communicate technical trade-offs, priorities, and delivery risks clearly.
Reliability, Security, and Operational Excellence
- Ensure shared platform services meet availability, latency, scalability, and recovery objectives.
- Embed observability, monitoring, capacity planning, and operational readiness into platform design.
- Improve tenant isolation, workload fairness, and platform resiliency.
- Partner with Security teams to build secure-by-default platform capabilities.
- Drive continuous improvements in operational efficiency, reliability, and cloud cost optimization.
Success Measures
Success will be measured through:
- Delivery of platform roadmap commitments
- Adoption of shared platform capabilities
- Platform availability, reliability, and operational health
- Improved developer productivity and satisfaction
- Successful migrations and retirement of legacy services
- Team engagement, growth, and engineering effectiveness
- Improvements in platform scalability and cloud efficiency
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience building and operating large-scale distributed platforms or multi-tenant SaaS systems.
- Experience leading engineering teams responsible for platform, backend, or infrastructure services.
- Strong technical expertise in distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native architectures, and shared platform services.
- Experience designing and operating highly available production services.
- Experience partnering with multiple engineering teams to deliver shared capabilities.
- Strong operational knowledge of observability, incident management, and production readiness.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and grow technical leaders.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building marketing technology, customer-data, analytics, or large-scale SaaS platforms.
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Iceberg, PostgreSQL, Redis, or similar technologies.
- Experience implementing identity, authorization, multi-tenancy, API gateways, or workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal.
- Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.
- Experience driving adoption of shared engineering platforms.

SALARY RANGE
The salary range for this role is $225,000 - $240,000, depending on location and experience.
