Job Description

Please Note: 

Due to Government of Canada regulatory requirements, this position requires the successful completion of a Government of Canada Reliability Status screening as a condition of employment. The screening process requires 5 years of verifiable background history. This includes identity verification, education verification, a criminal record check, and a credit check. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain Reliability Status, which generally requires Canadian citizenship or Canadian permanent resident status.  Employment is contingent upon successful completion and maintenance of the required screening.

 

This position reports to: Director, Systems Engineering

As a Manager of Systems Engineering, you will oversee a team responsible for designing, building and scaling our global cloud infrastructure systems that are at the heart of the ServiceNow product. This role provides technical leadership to the engineering team, interfaces with product development teams on new systems and enhancements of existing systems, recruiting, team development and creation of key performance metrics. Key to success is the ability to drive technical issues to completion across a global team through effective cross-organizational efforts.

What you get to do in this role:

  • Own the deployment, management and support of systems that make up our Canadian sovereign cloud running on GCP, as well as contribute to initiatives globally spanning across our global clouds running on Azure, AWS and GCP
  • Lead the engineering team responsible for the definition, configuration, delivery, and validation of compute across our private and public cloud infrastructure.
  • Work with Product and Program management to define and communicate the team’s external commitments and roadmap.
  • Facilitate engineering team autonomy by assisting with project planning, prioritization, Agile process, and skill development.
  • Support growth of engineers via hiring, goal setting, development of individual development plans, and performance reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance for systems and process optimization opportunities and participate in architectural reviews.
  • Assess risks, vulnerabilities, and mitigations of core services to ensure these systems are highly available, operationally sound, perform at scale and exceed customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with peer teams on complex, global engineering efforts to ensure architecture agreement, resource coordination and implementation timelines.
  • Set and sustain technical standards and best-practices in your domain.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you have:

  • Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI’s potential impact on the function or industry.
  • 8+ years’ experience leading systems/software development and engineering, release management and DevOps across a global 24x7 production environment with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • People management experience, and of a technical operations team such as DevOps. 
  • Deep technical fluency in public cloud, infrastructure automation, DevOps practices and software engineering principles.
  • Proficient with the components of infrastructure including public cloud, OS, linux, virtualization, and web applications and databases.
  • Public cloud experience running production services at scale: (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)
  • Experience with configuration management platforms at scale.
  • Demonstrated success balancing competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Work cross-functionally to build consensus and drive complex projects and issues to completion.
  • Ability to drive technical direction while supporting engineering autonomy and creativity. 
  • Outstanding communication skills.

 

This posting is for a new vacancy.

For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $125,700 - 220,000 CAD, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits.  Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure.  Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.

We also offer health plans, an RRSP Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, family and medical leave programs and Annual vacation: 20 days per year, accrued every pay period at 6.67 hours.

Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located and is subject to change based on work location.”
