At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance and healthspan. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.
The Finance team at WHOOP is building a world-class accounting organization to support the company's rapid growth and long-term strategic ambitions. We are focused on scaling our processes, strengthening internal controls, and preparing the infrastructure needed for public company readiness.
We are seeking a Manager, Revenue Accounting to join our accounting team and serve as a key operator within the revenue function. Reporting to the Director of Revenue and Inventory, this role will own the end-to-end revenue close for WHOOP's subscription, device, and services model, while bringing an analytics-forward lens to how revenue data is sourced, validated, and explained. Build scalable flows and dashboards to monitor completeness and accuracy between ERP and payment processor data, identify and investigate outliers, and drive greater transparency and control across the revenue reporting process. You will partner closely with Technical Accounting, FP&A, Data, Product, and Operations to ensure that revenue is recognized accurately under ASC 606, that judgments are operationalized into repeatable close processes, and that the underlying data tells a clear story to leadership and external auditors.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA, and follows a hybrid schedule. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Own the monthly and quarterly revenue close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, deferred revenue waterfalls, with clear tie-outs to the financial statements.
Operationalize the company's ASC 606 conclusions into repeatable close procedures, including performance obligation tracking, allocation of transaction price, contract modifications, and variable consideration, ensuring judgments are consistently applied across systems and channels.
Build and maintain revenue and contract cost analytics, including cohorted deferred revenue waterfalls, amortization schedules under ASC 340-40, recoverability analyses, and channel-level margin views that reconcile to GAAP revenue.
Partner with Data Analytics and Engineering teams to design and monitor data integrity controls from source systems (orders, activations, refunds, billing platforms) through the revenue subledger to the GL, including completeness and accuracy checks and exception reporting.
Establish monitoring for revenue risk indicators (refund spikes, activation delays, reseller deductions, anomaly detection) and translate them into accounting impacts such as variable consideration estimates and constraints.
Partner with Technical Accounting on the assessment of new contracts, promotions, and go-to-market programs, providing data-driven input on the operational and analytical implications of proposed accounting positions.
Support quarterly reviews and annual audits by preparing reconciliations, waterfalls, and supporting documentation for significant judgments and estimates, and by responding to auditor inquiries on revenue and deferred revenue.
Drive process improvement and automation within the revenue function, identifying opportunities to enhance accuracy and efficiency through BI and AI tools.
Contribute to public company readiness by strengthening revenue controls, documentation, and reporting cadence in alignment with SEC and SOX expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, including a strong foundation in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and experience in a revenue accounting role at a high-growth technology, subscription, or tech-enabled consumer company. Experience supporting revenue close in a multi-channel (DTC, wholesale, marketplace) environment strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
Deep, hands-on expertise in ASC 606, including the five-step model, performance obligation identification, transaction price allocation, variable consideration, and principal vs. agent considerations in reseller and marketplace channels.
Working knowledge of ASC 340-40 contract cost capitalization and amortization, with the ability to build and defend supporting analytics, rollforwards, and recoverability assessments.
Strong track record of owning monthly revenue close, deferred revenue rollforwards, and cutoff testing, with audit-ready documentation and clear memos for significant judgments and estimates.
Experience supporting IPO readiness, SEC reporting, or public company revenue processes strongly preferred.
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, or similar) required; experience with subscription billing platforms (Stripe, Recurly, or similar) strongly preferred.
Required Snowflake or comparable cloud data warehouses and BI tooling (, Tableau, or similar) to query, validate, and visualize large revenue datasets. Advanced Excel required; SQL strongly preferred.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex revenue accounting concepts and data findings into clear, accessible narratives for non-technical stakeholders across Product, Data, Operations, and Legal.
Experience implementing AI-driven solutions or process automation (Make, n8n, Parabola or similar) within accounting or close workflows is a plus.
Strong alignment with WHOOP's mission and brand, with genuine energy for contributing to a high-growth, mission-driven organization.
