Manager, Engineering - Robotics
SharkNinja | Needham, MA (on-site)
Robots that clean people's homes have to work every single day, in every kind of house, without being babysat. That's a hard engineering problem, and it's yours.
You'll lead a multidisciplinary team - mechanical, electrical, firmware/controls, and systems engineers - building the next generation of autonomous products in our robotics portfolio. Concept to mass production, at pace, with prototypes on your bench.
What you'll own
The system. Full ownership of robotic system design across mechanical, electrical, and embedded/controls - through concept, CAD/CAE, prototyping, V&V, and into mass production.
The integration. Sensors (LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, cliff and bump), actuators and motors, batteries, and embedded electronics brought together into one reliable machine, and the system-level testing that proves it.
The team. Hiring, developing, and stretching a group of A-players toward what they actually want their careers to be.
The tradeoffs. Continuous improvement of designs for cost, manufacturability, quality, reliability, and consumer value - applying tolerance stack-up, DFM/DFA, and electromechanical assembly judgment for high-volume production.
The connective tissue. Working seamlessly with our UK and China product development teams and with executive leadership so good ideas survive the trip to production.
What you bring
  • 6+ years in product development, robotics, or a related field - ideally somewhere fast-paced and startup-like
  • A record of shipping robust, elegant solutions to hard engineering problems, leading projects, and mentoring engineers
  • Product execution experience in consumer products or consumer robotics
  • Strong mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals: mechanical design, kinematics, dynamics, fluid mechanics
  • Working command of robotics fundamentals - sensing, actuation, motion planning, controls, embedded systems - enough to guide and evaluate a technical team
  • Hands-on familiarity with electronics, test equipment, and robotics components: sensors, motors, motor drivers, batteries, PCBAs, embedded controllers
  • Excellent CAD skills
  • BS, MS, or BA in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or similar)

Strong plus: embedded firmware, controls algorithms, or robotics software stacks (motion control, SLAM/localization, sensor integration).
How you work
You break complex problems down to first principles, build a plan, and execute fail-fast - progress over perfection. You chase down potential problems before they surface and take ownership of fixing them. You explain technical work clearly to non-technical colleagues. You argue for your ideas hard, and you let your ideas get argued with.
This role is on-site in Needham, MA - the work is hands-on with product and prototypes.
