Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP is one of the world’s leading international law firms. The Firm was established in 1884 and has approximately 2,000 lawyers. Headquartered in New York with offices in Beijing, Boston, Brussels, Chicago, Dallas, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Luxembourg, Palo Alto, San Francisco, São Paulo, Singapore, Tokyo and Washington, D.C., the Firm provides coordinated legal advice and transactional capability to clients around the globe.

The Manager, Content & Funds Strategic Advisory has two connected responsibilities in support of the Firm’s private funds practice. The first, and primary, is to develop and execute a content strategy that generates client conversations. This means curating short-form content and creating targeted outreach, such as emails that open a dialogue and secure a meeting. Once a meeting is secured, the Manager develops the longer-form content that deepens the relationship. The second is to support the Firm’s Funds Strategic Advisory (FSA) practice by partnering with the FSA Lead Partner and collaborating across Client Development & Engagement (CDE) and the Firm’s legal practice groups to deliver sophisticated advisory services to private fund sponsors and investors.

The ideal candidate combines business and legal fluency. This may be a professional with an MBA and investment banking, management consulting, or private markets experience who also understands the legal framework governing private funds. The Manager will use that knowledge to produce incisive content and rigorous advisory work for private equity, credit, hedge, real estate, venture, and other private fund sponsors.

The Manager serves as the Firm’s editorial voice for private funds and as a trusted thought partner to the FSA Lead Partner. The successful candidate is intellectually curious, a polished writer, comfortable with quantitative analysis, and excited to help build and scale a growing advisory capability within a leading global law firm.

Responsibilities

CONTENT STRATEGY & CLIENT TARGETING

  • Develop and execute a forward-looking editorial calendar and content pipeline covering key private funds topics, including fundraising, fund terms and structures, secondaries and continuation vehicles, evergreen and semi-liquid private vehicles, private credit, co-investment, and LP trends.
  • Curate and write short-form content, including market insights, timely commentary, and targeted emails that start a conversation and lead to a meeting.
  • Identify client targeting opportunities and craft tailored outreach, working with partners and CDE to prioritize sponsors and prospects.
  • Track outreach performance, including response and meeting conversion, and use the results to refine messaging and targeting.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and market developments affecting private fund sponsors, including SEC rulemaking, staff guidance, exemptive relief, no-action letters, and enforcement actions, and identify opportunities for timely written commentary.

DRAFTING & EDITORIAL PRODUCTION

  • Once a meeting is secured, research, draft, edit, and publish longer-form content, including client alerts, long-form articles, white papers, benchmarking reports, and market and regulatory summaries.
  • Translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, polished, commercially oriented prose for a sophisticated readership of fund sponsors, asset managers, and institutional investors.
  • Maintain rigorous editorial standards for accuracy, consistency of voice, and adherence to the Firm’s style, branding, and attorney-communication requirements.
  • Manage the end-to-end editorial workflow, from topic identification and outlining through drafting, attorney review, and final publication.
  • Provide editorial support to attorneys contributing to Firm publications, including substantive editing, structural feedback, and style coaching.

CLIENT ADVISORY & EXECUTION (FSA)

  • Partner with the FSA Lead Partner to execute strategic advisory engagements for private fund sponsors and investors.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to support recommendations for clients.
  • Develop financial models, market analyses, benchmarking studies, and business cases.
  • Synthesize complex legal, commercial, and financial information into clear, actionable insights and client-ready recommendations.
  • Prepare executive-level presentations and materials for client meetings.

STRATEGIC ADVISORY & THOUGHT PARTNERSHIP

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the FSA Lead Partner by helping frame client issues, challenge assumptions, develop hypotheses, and identify innovative approaches to complex business problems.
  • Analyze trends across private markets and alternative investments, including fund managers, LPs, fund terms and structures, and the broader investment landscape.
  • Develop analytical frameworks and decision-support models that support strategic recommendations.
  • Apply commercial and legal judgment to evaluate opportunities and deliver meaningful insights.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & CLIENT ENGAGEMENT

  • Contribute written content to pitch materials, RFP responses, and client-facing presentations that showcase the Firm’s private funds capabilities.
  • Collaborate with marketing and business development professionals to repurpose published content for client outreach, conference submissions, and speaking engagements.
  • Participate in client meetings, workshops, and presentations, and present analyses and recommendations clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
  • Monitor client and industry feedback on content and outreach to refine priorities.

PROJECT, ENGAGEMENT & STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Manage multiple content initiatives and client engagements simultaneously, meeting deadlines and maintaining a consistent publishing cadence.
  • Coordinate workstreams across attorneys, CDE (including marketing, communications, and design), and other internal stakeholders.
  • Drive project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communications.
  • Undertake additional content, advisory, and editorial projects as assigned by practice group or CDE leadership.

PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT

  • Develop repeatable methodologies, templates, content frameworks, analytical models, and best practices that strengthen both the content program and the Advisory offering.
  • Build and maintain a repository of published content, research, and reference materials, organized by topic and fund type.
  • Build intellectual capital and tools that support the growth and scalability of the service line, and identify opportunities to improve processes and the client experience.
