We are trailblazers. Problem solvers. People who thrive in fast paced environments, communicate clearly, and bring relentless focus to efficiency and execution.

About the role

Riot is seeking a Maintenance Strategy Manager to build and lead the maintenance strategy for Riot’s data center portfolio. You will turn reliability analysis (FMEA/RCM) into the equipment strategies, task standards, and intervals that govern how every asset class is maintained, and own the global maintenance library and Master Maintenance Index.

You will also lead Riot’s accelerated maintenance insourcing strategy: deciding which scopes move from vendors to internal Riot crews, in what order, and what must be in place before each one moves. Working alongside a dedicated Technical Training counterpart, you will ensure every insourced scope has a complete, field-ready maintenance package and technicians qualified to perform it.

You will manage critical maintenance and repair vendor relationships and partner closely with the Data Center Asset Manager and site leadership, who own day-to-day execution and backlog. This is a portfolio-wide role with travel to sites as needed.

This position will be remote with travel to support Riot's portfolio of sites as needed.

What you'll do

  • Lead the maintenance insourcing roadmap: set the criteria (criticality, specialization, cost, coverage, workforce readiness), sequence scopes, and enforce readiness gates (approved package, qualified technicians, tools and parts on site, site sign-off) before each vendor-to-internal transition.
  • Set the standard for complete maintenance packages (SOPs/MOPs, task instructions, safety requirements, tooling and parts lists, required qualifications); develop them with EHS, site SMEs, OEMs, and vendors, and approve each one before a scope goes live.
  • Define the skills, certifications, and qualification levels each scope requires based on code, regulatory, and OEM requirements, and partner with Technical Training so each scope’s training is ready when its package is.
  • Build and govern the equipment strategy library, turning FMEA/RCM analysis into documented run-to-failure, preventive, condition-based, and predictive strategies for each asset class.
  • Own the Master Maintenance Index, keeping every task template and interval linked to its governing equipment strategy; set interval review triggers and route changes outside documented tolerance through the Change Management Standard.
  • Manage critical maintenance and repair vendors as strategic partners: qualify and onboard, set SLAs and two-way scorecards, run performance reviews and escalations, align vendor work to Riot standards, and manage transitions as scopes move in-house.
  • Help sites prioritize by asset criticality and deferral risk, serve as the escalation point for strategy and vendor support, direct site-based Asset & Maintenance Planners, and elevate repeat or high-risk deferrals to leadership.
  • Track PM completion, planned-to-emergency ratio, and reliability KPIs to correct over-maintenance and recurring failures, and supply failure history to the Data Center Asset Manager for Priority 1/2 repair, refurbish, or replace decisions.

What you'll have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. CMRP or CMPS (Certificate in Maintenance Planning and Scheduling) a plus.
  • 7+ years in maintenance strategy, reliability-centered maintenance, or maintenance planning in data center, industrial, or other critical infrastructure environments.
  • Track record of building an equipment strategy library and governing maintenance tasks and intervals at multi-site scale.
  • Knowledge of preventive, predictive, condition-based, and run-to-failure models, and when each one applies.
  • Experience managing maintenance and repair vendor relationships, including SLAs, performance scorecards, performance reviews, and escalations.
  • Experience defining the technical, safety, and certification requirements behind maintenance work, and partnering with training teams, SMEs, and site operations to turn them into SOPs/MOPs and qualification programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with reliability KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance) and the ability to turn data into strategy changes.
  • Experience leading insourcing or make-vs-buy decisions for maintenance, including moving scopes from vendors to internal teams, preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Base salary range of $160,000–$170,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
  • Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: Incudes a generous company match.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options, including 100% company-paid plans.
  • Wellness & Lifestyle Perks: Enjoy free gym memberships, pet insurance, childcare discounts, and more to support your life both in and out of work.
