Build and productionize machine learning systems that convert complex documents into executable, verifiable logic. Responsibilities include developing parsing and transformation pipelines, experimenting with language models, designing datasets and evaluation metrics, creating adversarial tests, analyzing model failures, and implementing rule-based checks using logical reasoning and program analysis. The role requires close collaboration with founders and subject-matter experts to validate system outputs.

About the company

Our client is a healthcare technology company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Research and build machine learning systems that turn complex source documents into dependable, verifiable logic running in production. You will plan and run experiments on modern language models, shape evaluation methods, and ship the strongest approaches into a live pipeline. The work is done in close partnership with founders and subject-matter experts who review the results.

What you'll do

- Build a production pipeline that converts long-form documents into executable modules, covering parsing, transformation and checking.

- Iterate on the format used to express decision logic.

- Run comparative experiments across model families and adaptation techniques, including output-format control.

- Co-design datasets, metrics and error analysis to measure accuracy and faithfulness to sources.

- Create adversarial test cases that probe how well outputs match their sources and how complete and correct they are.

- Turn model failures into hypotheses, experiments and stronger system design.

- Write rule-based automated checks that rely on program analysis and logical reasoning tools to expose unclear, conflicting or missing information.

- Work directly with founders and expert reviewers who validate the outputs.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Experience shipping machine learning or NLP systems to production, beyond research prototypes.

- Background in language tooling, automated code generation or rigorous verification techniques.

- Production-level Python and PyTorch skills, along with the Transformers ecosystem.

- Hands-on work evaluating, training or prompting large language models.

- Familiarity with logical solvers, intermediate representation design or domain-specific languages.

- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, machine learning, math or a related technical field.

- Clear written communication about failed experiments and uncertainty.

- Authorization to work in the US or Canada.

- Willingness to attend in-person team offsites several times a year.

Bonus points

- Experience at a leading AI research lab.

- PhD in computer science, machine learning, NLP or statistics.

- Prior work in an environment where safety and compliance matter.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
