Lead and grow a team of ML, backend, and data engineers to design, deploy, and operate production-scale personalization and recommendation systems. Set technical direction, partner with Product and Data Science, mentor engineers, prioritize delivery, and champion adoption of modern ML techniques including large language models and generative AI to improve user personalization.

You'll join the Saturn squad within Sessions, part of Spotify's Personalization Mission. The team is focused on training and improving the machine learning models that rank and personalize some of Spotify's most-loved listening experiences, including Radio and Daily Mix. As part of Personalization's broader strategy, the team is also helping shape the future of generative recommendations by developing and adopting new approaches that leverage large language models, including fine-tuning models to improve the quality, relevance, and personalization of our playlists. As the Engineering Manager, you'll lead a talented team of machine learning, backend and data engineers while providing both technical direction and people leadership, helping the team deliver innovative ML capabilities that reach millions of listeners every day.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of machine learning engineers, creating an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.
- Set the technical direction for the team while partnering with Product, Data Science, and Engineering leaders to deliver impactful machine learning capabilities.
- Guide the design, development, deployment, and operation of production machine learning systems at scale.
- Support engineers through technical mentorship, career development, performance management, and regular feedback.
- Drive execution by helping the team prioritize work, remove obstacles, and continuously improve delivery.
- Foster engineering excellence through modern software engineering practices, experimentation, and operational excellence.
- Partner across squads and missions to influence technical strategy and ensure alignment across the Personalization organization.
- Champion thoughtful adoption of emerging machine learning technologies, including large language models, where they create meaningful user value.

We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the Eastern Standard time zone.
The United States base range for this position is $184,049- $262,928 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. These ranges may be modified in the future.
