The Opportunity
We are seeking a results-driven, engaging and dynamic leader for our Corporate Development team. The Corporate Development Lead will be part of a high-achieving and inclusive team that plays a critical role in the enterprise's M&A transactions, strategic investments and other inorganic growth initiatives and has sourced and executed transactions across insurance, asset management, retirement and financial technology in the U.S. and globally in the past few years.
The Team
MassMutual's Corporate Development team mission is to drive strategic growth and value through disciplined M&A execution and integrated strategic and financial oversight of MassMutual's Key Operating Entities (KOEs.) This team consists of leaders and professionals as well as employees in our iMMerse analyst program: a talent initiative run in partnership with our Corporate Strategy function. Corporate Development collaborates closely with peer teams across Finance, with most common touch points in MassMutual's Corporate Strategy, Treasury, FP&A, Controllers and Tax organizations.
The Impact
The M&A Corporate Development Lead will report directly to the Head of Corporate Development and will have accountability over the following areas.
    • Drive M&A transaction execution and deal sourcing efforts, including
      • Aligning deal origination with company strategic goals. This includes working directly with our Corporate Strategy team business leaders to assess capabilities and needs, evaluating different business models, conducting in-depth industry and company research.
      • Constructing thoughtful financial models and valuation analyses: building and interpreting projected financial statements, assessing a target's value using multiple valuation methods, determining levers for pro forma growth and scale.
      • Leading deal teams and key work streams in transaction execution which entails serving as deal "quarterback," identifying critical issues for each deal, crafting objectives accordingly, engaging with internal and external subject matter experts, leading work streams and owning internal deliverables and approval materials for executive management and the Board of Directors.
    • Help build the team - develop our Analysts for our ongoing Analyst program by providing active coaching/feedback, serving as a developmental manager or mentor and leading part of our recruiting and training efforts.
    • Role model inclusive behaviors that are customer centric and team oriented
    • Positively impact the company's "course and speed" as part of an integrated effort amongst MassMutual's Strategy, Corporate Development and Strategic Intelligence teams

Minimum Qualifications
    • 5+ years of investment banking or Corporate Development experience at Associate level or above (must be highly rated), inclusive of experience leading substantive portions of M&A deal teams
    • Experience should be from a top-tier investment banking firm or a similar role with a leading internal Corporate Development function
    • Bachelor's degree from a leading college or university; graduate degree is valued, but not a requirement
    • Track record of developing Analysts and other team members through coaching and mentoring
    • Demonstrated financial modeling expertise; ability to build effective and well-reasoned financial projections and valuation analyses and efficiently communicate results and implications

Ideal Qualifications
    • Strong track record of deal-related "discipline" (e.g., exemplary attention to detail, ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, comfort communicating with junior and senior team members, internal client and external stakeholders)
    • Ability to create simple, powerful, and data-driven communications for senior leaders
    • Ability to effectively communicate with senior leaders and build enduring, trust based and high-impact relationships with clients and other colleagues

Financial services experience is valued, but not a requirement; experience across a range of industries (e.g., financial services, technology, media, consumer) is relevant to our work
