Who We’re Looking For

Revenue.io is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping both the technology and culture of our Revenue Platform team. This is a player-coach role for someone who leads by example—writing high-quality code, guiding technical direction, and setting the standard for how great engineering gets done.

You’ll be at the forefront of our evolution toward generative AI-powered software development, helping us integrate AI tooling across the entire SDLC—from planning and design to testing, release, and operations. You’ll serve as a technical force multiplier: mentoring others, leading initiatives, and conducting self-directed technical spikes that inform platform strategy.

We're looking for someone who is equal parts builder, explorer, and leader—someone who delivers at a high level while inspiring the team around them to do the same.

What You’ll Do
  • Individually contribute to complex backend systems, delivering performant, secure, and maintainable code that others look to as the gold standard.
  • Lead and deliver key platform initiatives, driving architectural decisions and execution with clarity and consistency.
  • Conduct structured, self-directed technical spikes and evaluations to inform platform direction and de-risk implementation decisions.
  • Own and drive resolution of the most complex, high-priority production issues, leveraging logs, telemetry, and team collaboration to rapidly diagnose and remediate.
  • Drive deep, hands-on adoption of generative AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Devin) across all phases of the SDLC, not just development—impacting planning, testing, documentation, operations, and release workflows.
  • Mentor other experienced engineers, helping them grow technically while instilling a mindset of high ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
  • Own and continuously evolve core engineering practices, including code review standards, observability patterns, and test strategies.
What You Bring
  • 3+ years of experience as a Lead or Staff Software Engineer role with similar responsibilities
  • 8+ years of Java-based, backend development experience in high-scale SaaS environments preferably early/mid-stage start ups (Series C and earlier)
  • Proven experience architecting and delivering production-grade platforms and platform services with high reliability, performance, and security.
  • Significant skills and experience in Java, Spring Boot, and designing scalable REST APIs.  Experience with React / Typescript a significant plus
  • Demonstrable, hands-on experience leveraging generative AI tooling in real engineering work.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot the most complex production issues using telemetry, logs, and debugging tools—especially in distributed systems.
  • Track record of leading technical investigations, spikes, and prototyping initiatives that shape product or platform direction.
  • Deep familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.
  • Clear, structured communicator—proactive in updates, alignment, and decision-making.
  • Passion for mentorship, team growth, and elevating engineering culture.  You are a bar setter.
Who You Are
  • You’re a builder, mentor, and force multiplier—you write excellent code, but your true power is in how you level up everyone around you.
  • You’re a model of engineering excellence—your work demonstrates what best-in-class execution looks like in everything from code quality to communication and delivery velocity.
  • You’re a generative-native leader—you don’t just use AI tooling, you wield it to rethink velocity, quality, and the entire engineering workflow.
  • You see ambiguity as an opportunity to drive clarity—and you move fast, even when the map isn’t finished.
  • You’re obsessed with improving the craft of software engineering—and you have strong opinions, held lightly, about how we can do it better.
  • You take pride in being the calmest person in the room during production incidents—and the fastest to find the root cause.
  • You’re not just here to deliver features. You’re here to shape how great engineering gets done in the AI era.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
