POSITION SUMMARY :

Under the general supervision of the Histology Laboratory Manager, the LST is responsible for providing quality customer oriented laboratory services including specimen procurement, specimen processing and related specialized procedures, case assembly, slide distribution, change H&E setup, file slides and service to effectively communicate information to users of the Laboratory Services in order to ensure the department is able to operate efficiently and to successfully fulfill its mission. LSTs also provide training and guidance to less experienced laboratory support technicians.

Schedule: Full Time

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

Transport specimens between grossing, processing, embedding, and staining areas

Assist with loading/unloading tissue processors (as permitted by policy)

Organize and store paraffin blocks and glass slides

Retrieve archived slides/blocks for pathologists or send-outs

Package specimens, slides, and blocks for referral testing

Assist with specimen tracking and chain-of-custody documentation

Verify patient identifiers and specimen labeling for accuracy and compliance

Prepare cassettes, labels, and paperwork for histology processing

JOB REQUIRMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma

CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, & LICENSURES:

  • Phlebotomy Certification (ASCP) preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One year of Phlebotomy, EKG, and/or specimen processing experience is preferred.

Compensation Range:

$18.27- $25.72

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
