This is a hybrid role in our Newton, MA office.

At Bright Horizons, if you are not in the direct support of children and families, then you are in direct support of those who are.  That statement is true across the board here, but especially for our rapidly growing and dynamic Information Technology department.   With continuous company-wide growth, IT has transformed from a break/fix utility to being at the forefront of many of the exciting changes that have taken place at Bright Horizons.  Right now, we are in need of an IT Software Developer to help facilitate some of these endeavors.

The IT Software Developer will support at least two of our largest applications.  The position will involve coding, developing, and general support of these projects.  In other words, through a variety of means, the IT Software Developer will translate business and technical requirements into business systems.  Bright Horizons has been named by FORTUNE magazine fourteen times as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” and voted #1 large employer in Massachusetts by the Boston Globe, because of our warm, inclusive, casual, yet challenging work environment.

What you will be doing:

  • Designing system enhancements and business process changes geared to drive best practices that improve efficiency of staff, accuracy of results, and usefulness of data
  • Critically evaluating business requirements, providing alternative solutions where applicable
  • Working in conjunction with outside vendors in a shared development environment
  • Working with Application Support, QA, and development to support application issues, changes and modifications
  • Proactively identifying ways in which system and process changes can improve the efficiency of key users, customer service, accuracy of results, and/or completeness of data
  • Acting as a change agent to help ensure that the newly implemented system/process enhances the success of the project and increases the project’s chance of meeting the business' needs

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in .Net web application development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or comparable experience required.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • ASP.Net MVC framework experience is a plus.Well versed in writing clean HTML, CSS, JavaScript.  jQuery experience is a plus.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft SQL Server.  Writing optimized SQL and following best practices for relational databases. Creating Stored Procedures, relational tables.
  • Experience with maintaining and improving to an existing codebase, focusing on improving performance, scalability and user experience.
  • Familiar with Scrum / Agile methodologies.
  • Silverlight experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills are essential. Individual must be comfortable working with a variety of user groups at all levels within the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking to analyze problems, document needs and communicate these needs to a variety of audiences.
  • The individual must have a proven ability to understand business requirements in a variety of functional areas and the flexibility to adapt to new and changing information.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage many competing priorities and thrive in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a virtual collaborative environment.
  • The individual must have a strong customer service philosophy and skills; thrive in a team environment as well as in an individual setting; demonstrate impeccable organization, attention to detail and follow-up skills; have a willingness to take on new projects; be a self-starter, highly motivated, results-driven and goal-oriented, comfortable setting aggressive goals and exceeding them.

Compensation: $110,000 - $125,000
