An Investment Tax Manager II reviews work papers and analysis prepared by other staff supporting the taxation of regulated investment companies (RIC) and investment partnerships. Directly supervises other tax staff. Responsible for regularly meeting and communicating with the client and external vendors. Responsible for ensuring that all deliverable schedules are met in a timely manner with accurate product. Manages staff training and trains staff.
The Investment Tax Manager II position requires a high level of specialized investment tax knowledge. This job is generally responsible for the supervision of other staff, but if warranted highly trained individuals in this specialized area will fulfill the duties of an Investment Tax Manager II, excepting responsibility for the direct management of staff.
Key Activities/Elements
- Reviews RIC income tax and excise tax provision work papers; Reviews data that supports financial statement preparation and disclosures; Reviews analysis of securities held by RICs; Reviews estimates of RIC distributions and work papers to support shareholder reporting; Ensures departmental policies and practices are adhered.
- Reviews tax returns, their supporting work papers and associated schedules.
- Reviews work papers and other documents to support other client deliverables and other BBH deliverables.
- Oversees the operations of the department including assignment and monitors departmental progress on various deliverables; Ensures that all deliverable schedules are met in a timely manner with accurate product; Ensures that departmental policies and practices are adhered.
- Meets and communicates with the client on all tax issues.
- Ensures the client’s expectations are known and met.
- Works with the client to assist with investors questions.
- Research and determine security tax treatments.
- Interprets rulings and regulations, and establishes their effect on our clients’ funds and their shareholders.
- Manages the status reporting for management review process.
- Identifies and manages process improvement projects.
- Identifies and manages tax automation projects.
- Manages the department’s training program; Participates in technical and other training to develop skills to enhance the employee and client experience; Develops investment tax and other accounting skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- BS/BA degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent work experience.
- 7 to 12 years of RIC tax experience.
- Requires tax research skills and extensive knowledge of relevant federal, state and non-US tax statutes, regulations and interpretive rulings or case law.
- Proven ability to work with people and facilitate the smooth workflow between Investment Tax and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong client service skills, team attitude and attention to detail.
- Strong supervisory skills with the ability to prioritize.
Salary Range
MA: $100,000 - $150,000 base salary + annual target bonus
