Internship projects vary depending on the needs of both the student and the business. Haemonetics interns are assigned to a meaningful project within the company to acquire a variety of experiences, try different skills, and learn what a future career might offer while also contributing to our innovation agenda by completing business-critical projects and assignments.  The Research and Development (R&D) Engineering Disposables will be located onsite 3 days/2 days remote per week in our downtown Boston HQ located at 125 Summer St. 

Haemonetics has a broad portfolio of apheresis disposables currently in the market and is always looking for innovative medical technology solutions that improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of care. Haemonetics is currently developing new technologies to enable higher plasma yield collections, improve productivity and quality in our customer’s centers, and enhance the overall donor experience.

The Haemonetics NexSys PCS® Plasma Collection System is designed for separation of whole blood by centrifugation, collection of plasma, and return of the remaining blood components to the donor. The plasma may be designated for use in therapeutic transfusion or be conserved, used as source plasma, and subsequently fractioned into plasma-derived products.  

What You Will Do:

The intern will work closely with the Disposables engineering team and assist in test execution for projects across the Disposables portfolio, with a focus on the plasmapheresis market.

In addition to this primary project, the hiring manager may provide additional project work throughout the term of this internship.

This intern will join ongoing efforts to evaluate new material candidates across the Disposables portfolio with a focus on the plasmapheresis market.  They will be personally responsible for:

  • Completion of assigned project tasks related to the development and design verification of plasmapheresis disposables.

  • Updating and releasing product documentation, assisting with cost estimations, and maintaining the project plan.

  • Prototyping and testing next generation design concepts and test fixtures.

  • Executing test method validations for entire disposables portfolio.

Education/Skills:

  • Undergraduate with major in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Engineering (Plastics)

  • Solidworks experience desired.

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision 

  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
